Things you spend money on that would make an Ethiopian rage

A few years back I tracked all of the change I had found on the ground, in vending machines, left in coin counting machines like Coinstar, etc. At the end of each day I would write the total down and then calculate the monthly total at the end of the month.

At the end of the year, I had found just under $300.
$300 you wouldn’t have had if not looked for

How bout tap water?

They have to walk 2 miles to get a bucket of water that's probably filthy. Then they watch us going, "this water is clean enough to drink, but I shower with it. Sometimes multiple times per day. Basically any time I sweat at all. And I also complain if it's not hot enough."
And not only that but despite this abundance of water that comes out of the tap anytime I want, I go to the store and spend money on water in plastic bottles to drink cause the perfectly clean tap water "isn't good enough".

Just like in the US, some houses in Ethiopia have garages.

Quite a few in Addis Ababa in fact.

$90 a month to clean a pool that I've been in once in 6 months. Have to get it leak tested soon and its gonna cost at least a grand.

Unless your pool is super elaborate it should not cost 1k to do a leak detection on. I worked at an American Leak Detection and we charged $295 pool, $395 pool/spa combo. Only way you would hit 1k is if you had a lot of in-floor return lines.

I buy produce knowing I will just throw it out in a week or so.

Thats who is coming next tuesday.

Its a swim pool with lots of jets. they quoted $180 an hour, two hour minimum, I kinda factored in a worst case scenario on hours plus a repair.

How in the world does their system detect leaks?

I have no time to iron. I hang my clothes in the bathroom and run the shower on hot until there’s no more hot.

Trade secrets I cannot share. But if I could share them I would tell you they isolate various sections of the pool plumbing (suction lines, return lines, fill lines, etc.) and induce either helium or compressed air into the isolated sections. If the section holds pressure it is leak free. If it does not there is listening equipment and gas checks if using helium to detect the leak under even concrete.

Very hard job with a lot of uncertainty even with an experienced tech. If you were planning to factor in repair cost we charged roughly $1350 for a pipe repair under concrete. It may also be structural with a skimmer and we charged $1950 for that.

Hope for the best for you bud. Do you mind if I ask what area you live in?

South Bay Los Angeles.

If the proposed repair is ridiculous I may consider ripping the whole thing out, (its fiberglass) and replacing with a single in ground jacuzzi

You probably have pretty similar pricing, I worked in the SF Bay Area.

There are a couple tricks to try to help you diagnose the leak yourself but they are not always super accurate and if it is in the plumbing underground it is almost impossible to find yourself without the right equipment/training.

If you have any interest in maybe trying to find it yourself send me a PM and I can go through a few steps with you.

FarmVille in game purchases.

Oh you starving and ain't got no money for food ? Fk yo shit ! I spend money to grow imaginary food nobody can ever eat.

I dont know about all that but let me tell ya! If you don’t accept or pick up off the ground a cent or 2, you’re too Americanized.

What I mean by that is, take a Ethiopian immigrant for example. If he/she comes over to America and sees a penny or two lying on the ground they’re going to pick that up because hey, they don’t have a million dollars yet do they? Nope and neither do you or I. That’s when I go through the drive-thru and my change is a penny, they ask; do you want your change? Yup!!!
