Things we believe existed, but never actually did.

I dont get it?? you trying to give me epilepsy or something

1) Mute anyone who brings up politics outside the WR.
2) Is that really how Pikachu looks?!?!? I can't believe it. Had to Google it to make sure.

I don't understand this at all. Has this got something to do with Nelson Mandela. I feel like this is a big joke and I'm the only one not in on it.
The Mandela Effect is a phenomenon where demographics mis-remember something in the exact same way. The term was coined the Mandela Effect because many people recall Nelson Mandela having died in jail whereas other people believe he didn't. However, the debate between BERENSTEIN VS BERENSTAIN was bandied about before then but no adult wants to quibble over a kids' thingie.

(Note to self: Don't say "kids' thingie." Are you crazy?)

Except whether he died or not is a fact not a belief. ;)

He 100℅ never died in prison. I remember him getting out. It was a big deal.

Since you brought up Fruit of the Loom...

What that shit is that orange-yellow guy supposed to be?
A fruit in the loom ? <{vega}>

Bernstain Bears never existed.

Also, Sinbad did play a genie in a movie.

My memory sucks and I pay little attention to a lot so those are all whatever to me

Non-Washington insider successful businessman candidate.

Marco Polo. I was a bit surprised to later learn Marco Polo was likely a made up fictional guy.

I guess that the press was honest. That is certainly not true today.

Literally none of those things on the left are even remotely accurate.

The fact that people even entertain this shit is hilarious. There's a reason why eye witness accounts are the most absolutely unreliable forms of evidence in a court of law. It's scientifically proven that people don't remember shit exactly how it happened.

I don’t remember it being black

The cornucopia and the monocle got me. Those were there in my world! Also, and this is one I came to on my own and dunno if its a thing, but Louie Anderson fuckin died years ago close to when his cartoon ended. Then I see him as the mom in Baskets and was like wtf?

Most of these are just alternatives that make a lot of sense, so a lot of people end up having the same misconception e.g. you would expect an old timey business guy to have a monocle, Berenstein sounds more like a name that would exist than Berenstain etc.

Also, there's the fact that over time remote memories become composed entirely of instances that you recalled the memory. So when people start to misremember things they eventually become utterly convinced that something was a certain way when it really wasn't.

Thing is we don't focus on watch things 100% accurately, we give often a quick look and let mind complete the figure using stuff we know already
