I’m sure Paddy Pimbletts legacy will be the folk lore people write songs about in the future
TLDR at the bottom
I’d argue that anything that brings in more casuals is a good thing.
The more fans, the more (presumed) opportunity for the fighters to market themselves, or make a name off the big stars, etc…
Conor’s a perfect example.
He basically made Nate Diaz (for the fans who aren’t as passionate about the sport,) Khabib, Dustin, etc…
We maybe been fans; but most of the world gave 2 sh-ts about any of them before they Conor.
Jared Gordon would’ve probably gotten the respect (from the wider sporting community) that he deserved had the judges not F’d that one up.
The only reason that anyone cares about that Jackson guy (who got smacked around by Jake Shields) is that he beat CM Punk.
Colby’s kind of another one; but he’s actually a good and well rounded competitor.
Arguably, Ali brought garnered attention from non-boxing fans; while Tyson brought in viewers who just wanted to see him ‘kill’ someone; especially after Cus D’Amato died and he went all ‘I’ll F—- you til you love me, Imma each his kids, praise to Allah…’ (the last being antithetical to the former two sir course.)
TLDR: More hyped bombastic stars (even if they’re not great fighters) bring in casuals.
A couple of them will become “hardcore” fans which grows the sport giving us more events (including free ones) so that users here can kvetch about having too much to watch.
he also pissed hot after the fight, and at that point even the UFC had to do something...
