a game I sometimes play to amuse myself when bored is looking at 2 major news sources about america and comparing their headlines and what they decided were the important issues of the day.

The fun part of this is trying to figure out which two countries these places are covering because they can't possibly be the same place can they?

Like today, so often one source's major bold headline is not even mentioned in the other and vice versa.

I believe rhetoric and the art of persuasion should be taught to our children at a very early age since we all have nonstop access to propaganda through the internet.

I believe now more than ever is a time when people need to be aware of how their "news" sources try to manipulate them not only from the way they spin stories, but from things like omission, placement, and establishing fake authority then using that to instruct, using fake social proof, appealing to their emotions (mostly fear these days) etc.

In today's world this is a much more useful skill to armor yourself against both propaganda and incessant marketing, than say knowing about isosceles triangles or the Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act, well maybe not Smoot-Hawley which seems a tad bit relative now.

BTW I honestly thought was Hawley-Smoot but maybe that is because I was a big Hawley fan and thought Smoot was a credit grabbing whore.

But anyway, I encourage everyone, left, right, maga, never trumper, and even those posting here who are convinced that only their side, and their news source is PURE & TRUE, to try out this game a few times.

Oh and read a book or two, or in some of your cases ask someone to read a book to you, about rhetoric and persuasion and give yourself and your kids a fighting chance in the war the media wages to control your heart, votes, and dollars.

It's all about clicks, unfortunately. A huge part of the population only reads headlines and they know that. I don't even need to get into which side has more egregious examples of false/misleading headlines either. It's just one of the reasons most Americans do not trust the MSM. Therefore, they flock to independent journalists and bloggers/vloggers/podcasters online more and more.

i think perhaps you only read the headline of the post and missed the real point that knowing this "astonishing revelation!" our schools and ourselves have done little to combat it.

Knowing you are being attacked or manipulated and bleatingly going ok it makes me feel smart and warm and toasty, accepting one side's "alternative facts" without seeking a shield against those attacks is just lazy and dumb

The Greeks were refining these techniques centuries ago and that was long before the instantaneous worldwide reach of the internet was available, yet most people these days don't understand these tactics as they are used against you.

And, more and more, how these things are done with no subtlety or even attempt to hide the bias, but accepted as fact and ACTED UPON.

Or you're just another snide pompous Smoot fan who thinks Hawley did nothing at all.

School isn't a place of learning, in case the obey-authority and conform pseudo-prison structure of the place hadn't tipped you off. School is a place where your psyche is conditioned and shaped in the way most convenient to the ruling class. People come out of it with a standardized set of beliefs about the world that are very resistant to change because they were added at a tender phase in development. People graduating with no ability to think critically is a feature, not a bug.

Ordinary people understand to some degree that media is corrupt. Reality is the media is arc-welded to the deep state. Like you couldn't tell where media ends and deep state begins, it's all the same appendage and not the only one. To understand what the deep state is and how they could even pull off something like that you need to understand what this planet is and its' history. The real one, not the one the power structure told you in school. Since most people have no idea, and they believe the stories they were told in their childhood without question, they have no context with which to understand the world they're grappling with. And largely, they don't want to know. Whatever you look for, you end up finding, it's a universal law of sorts. If the Kardashians got your attention, you're discovering new facts about gossip about them everyday. Since most people have their attention—and their attention is often guided there purposefully—fixated on things that don't matter at all, they never discover anything of value either.

Independent bloggers/vloggrrs/Podcaster have an even greater incentive to make up stuff to get clicks, likes and subs

Oh please. School isn't perfect and the system has its flaws but it is undoubtedly a place of learning. Discipline and order is an integral part of a society that works together to achieve common goals. Goals that benefit everybody.

That is something required anymore when watching and reading the news to be critical of what you read. So much news reported these days is a bunch of nonsense. trying to figure what is honest and true isn't always easy to do.

With all the lies that the media has told over the last decade, we might find that much of the media known today will be gone due to people not trusting them. Along these lines ~
