There's nothing that says Max will dominate Kattar

What fight was it that convinced you of that? I felt since the Frankie fight he wasn’t the same as usual but he looked good vs Alexander the 2nd time even tho he got outclassed in the first fight.
I think that was mainly due to the style match up. Max had to respect Edgar's takedowns in a way he really hasn't had to against any other opponent. Lamas was the last wrestler he faced and Lamas is nowhere near as good at integrating his wrestling with his kickboxing and even then he didn't get pieced up like a lot of Max' opponents.

Forgot to mention/worth mentioning that Max has stopped sparring (so he says) and I think that's been the norm since mini stroke or was it Covid I can't remember so he has made a concerted effort to stop the wear and tear as much as possible
That’s GREAT!!

Fighters get to a point where they know how to fight.
Robbie Lawler did this in his championship run. Smart move for long term health.

Kattar is older but Max has taken way more damage in his career.

I favor Kattar slightly in this bout. It's a shame because I felt Max beat Alex in their rematch and should be champ.

Now by a flukey circumstance he may be on a 3 fight losing streak soon.

flukey??

Stop

There is the Zabit fight. Zabit's volume got him ahead in that, Max is a fellow tall volume guy. Kattar can be a bit passive. A bit like Kampmann, relying too much on the jab and close range circling to find the next jab. He's open to kicks and while he has good boxing defense he tends to shell up, which doesn't look good for the judges. You can land on him, even if not cleanly.

Max also has the 5-round experience, the cardio more so than the pacing. Kattar is the one who needs a certain pace of these two. Max can go fast. So I think Max by decision.

Max typically has more volume and Kattar more power. Max is often willing to take one to give one, which does not bode well for him here.

Really wish gambling was legal here in Maine. Kattar is going to hurt Max badly and win this fight

Iirc Zabit nullified Kattars jab quite easily with pressure and forced him to move backwards. Something Max is very capable of doing. Plus lets not act like Lamas and Stephens are half the fighters they were when Max got a crack at them. I still believe Max is one of the best fighters p4p, and I liked the heavy inclusion of kicks in the last fight, which Kattar has struggled with in the past (Zabit, Moicano). Kattar can def. get the job done but there is a reason he is coming in as an underdog. Great fight nonetheless.

The fight will go the distance.

3-2 Max/Kattar by UD/SD

No one is getting finished there.

Kattar either Dust Max in the first 3 and lose a step loosing the last 2
Or
Kattar kinda wins the first 2 but max's veteran's guile allows him the win to last 3 rounds and win

I might be remembering it wrong but I think he stopped sparring during his Strikeforce run and went back to it after going back the UFC. He also dropped down from MW to WW when he transitioned so I think in that time he took the sport really seriously.

He got his shit together.

He always belongs at WW, but could beat a lot of MWs and avoid weight cutting and dieting discipline.

around the end of his Strikeforce run he really fine tuned his striking, studied karate and got way better with angles and technical boxing, using feints, rolling with punches.

became a true 2.0

I believe he was still not sparring at least though his first few UFC fights.

The “I already know how to fight” line I said in a prior post was a Lawler quote from that era.

Hard to question Max's chin after Poirier, I don't see domination either way, but a close war. If anyone gets finished I think it's Max though

Max has spent a lot of time towards the top of the division or champ, that's a lot of tape and time for his opponents to study it. I dont think hes fizziling as much as he's being game planned for better.
I think this fight with kattar will come down to body shots. Kattar has been using them more and more and that could prevent any 4th and 5th round surges from holloway. I'm hoping to see some more wrinkles in max's game here.

I don't think that but I think he ran into bad matchups lately. Poirier and Volk were just bad fights for him. Same with Kattar.

I think this might look like the Poirier rematch. Kattar could easily box the shit out of Max.
I could see that too. Max may be one of those guys that just don’t get better over time as well
