Tom Aspinall after an Eye-poke

Stipe Miocic vs Daniel Cormier 2

Yuki Nakai vs Gerard Gordeau

This is not disrespect to Tom, I'm just reminding people here, Because Stipe is one of the least talked about fighters EVER.

Some people can't continue after an Eye-poke too, not too many people are DC, Stipe, Werdum or Glover, there are fighters such as: Cheick Kongo vs Ryan Bader, Belal vs Leon 1, Mitrione vs Browne...etc of them couldn't continue after an eye-poke, and maybe the Eye-poke Tom received was way more painful, who knows? good thing that MMA isn't made for everyone and not everyone can become a fighter to test how painful it is to get poked in the eye.

But what are your thoughts?

Pain? It's not about pain, it's about being able to see. If you can't see shit and you go back out there you deserve to get knocked out.

Belal didn't cry out because he was in pain. He was scared something serious had happened to his eye which isn't about toughness. Anyone would freak out if they thought lost their eyesight.

Like I said before I got poked once in college when I was playing basketball. Cut through my eyelid and was ridiculously painful. But more then pain its so fucking scary to have your vision messed up and im not fighting. I would not continue why should you. Fuck Gane and the ufc. They would rather you get poked not take a point and get knocked out. Millions on the line Im not getting back out there. Kevin Holland should have took a knee too. No one gave him any credit they shit on him too

this is not about toughness for 2 reasons 1. he could not see, fighting blind is not about toughness and 2. he did not know at that time that his eyes were not permanently damaged, he was, for all intents and purposes trying to save himself from permanent blindness , risking permanent blindness is not about toughness- Micheal Bisping is a case in point. fighting through exhaustion and muscle pain is toughness. this is not..duuude !!!

Maybe if refs, and commissions would take eyepokes more seriously with point deductions. Maybe a percentage of purse lost like missing weight if it ends the fight. Maybe then seriously compromised fighters would stop trying to be tough guys, and fight blind, this issue would go almost completely away outside of absolutely true accidents. But with large sums of money moving around in bets give refs a lot of blind spots to blatant fouls all over every card.

1. He could see just fine because he was watching the replays in his post fight interview " See! Knookle deep!"
2. He quit because things weren't going his way

I've never had a vision scare like that, but I did once have a hearing loss scare like that. Sudden complete deafness in one ear, and I definitely freaked, though not nearly as badly as I would for an eye. Turned out that some wax dislodged and wedged tight against the eardrum, so no big deal, but even if it doesn't hurt at all, that kind of sudden loss of one of your senses is a really bad time.

Bro, that shit is so damn painful, how are you gonna say he quit cause he was afraid that something happened to his eye and not because of pain? also, tell me, what happened next time they fought?

What if that was from one eye? also, we'll see how his eyes look like when he first posts on social media, that fucking Jon Jones never got poked in his eyes before but yet that bag of tits son of a bitch changes his pfp to duck with eye-patch.

I got a baseball sent directly into my eye when playing baseball @HI SCOTT NEWMAN :)

I fell over and people came running, but I was like, let's keep playing and we did 🐈 I was like 14 XD

There ya go, and a baseball is really hard and large, but you kept going because you're a champ. Champ mindset. Hopefully Jones will fight Alex soon and we can get some action

Because fighters are used to pain and have insane pain tolerance. they're not just gonna quit because "ouch, my eye hurts bro, i mean like OWWWIEE!" these guys are used to eating hellbows for entire rounds, breaking their noses, orbital bones, jawbones, toes, tearing ligaments, getting kicked and kneed in the liver, even the testicles, and still keep fighting.
not being able to see and the fear of going permanently blind is what makes fighters opt out in those situations. not cuz they can't handle the pain of an eyepoke. I wasn't knocking Belal at all btw as his concern was completely understandable.

Isn't Yuki Nakai blind in one eye now?

Can't blame Tom for not fighting after that brutal double eyepoke.

Fuck Gane for ruining that fight for the fans. It was heating up!
It really was just getting going before Gane fucked everyone's night. This was no accident either.

He poked or attempted to poke multiple times through the round.

It's impressively dumb that so many people don't seem to grasp that all eye pokes may not have the same effect.

Some look terrible and the guy fights fine afterwards
Others look not that bad and you read an article on Monday that the fighter needs surgery.

Crazy concept here- wait for all the information.

How far do you think a fingerNAIL needs to go in to cut an eyeball? 2mm? 5mm?

Gane has a very well established history of dirty fighting.

Eye pokes
Loads of back of the head shots
Nut shots

He is up for whatever when it comes to fouls.
