Opinion Theodore Roosevelt: Big Stick Energy

In any case, there's no "mixed bag".

He's the greatest conservationist in human history.
And you watch as the current admin strips workers from those places. WTF, dude? People that man the check points and make sure bears and moose don't get fucked with are being FIRED. Be better.

The Trump admin got the big stick energy

Oddly one of the few Presidents both Dems and Publicans consider a top-tier POTUS.

Easier to like being juxstaposed with Wilson, the devil.
Personality matters. Think the kids would say Teddy's cup overfloweth with rizz

TR could've easily won a third term as the incumbent with full party backing and resources at his disposal. He relished the presidency but still gave it up to honor the precedent George Washington had set. In hindsight, he probably shouldn't have considering FDR ended up running for a third (and fourth) term anyway. Of course, he did run again four years later on his own Bull Moose ticket and to this day, it remains the only time in American history that a third-party candidate managed to win a higher share of the popular vote than a major party's nominee.

"I have always said I would not have been President had it not been for my experience in North Dakota. It was here that the romance of my life began. I grow very fond of this place, and it certainly has a desolate, grim beauty of its own that has a curious fascination for me."

The TR library was a waste of taxpayer dollars.
It should have been built in a bigger city, like Dickinson, where it would get year round use.

Arguably his cousin FDR was a greater President. He shepherded the country through the Great Depression, started Social Security and navigated the US through WW2.

These are the threads we need.

The string of successive one-termer (or less) cans that held office from 1837-1861 during the sectional crisis is kind of breathtaking. For his part, at least Polk oversaw an absolutely massive expansion of US territory. President Polk believed in Manifest Destiny and kept his eye on the prize, lol.

The essential American project should be to restore mega-herds of bison. They should cover entire counties. The earth should shake several states away.

I love them so much.

Joining the bald eagle as a national symbol, the American bison recently became the United States' first national mammal. After four years of outreach to Congress and the White House, by the Wildlife Conservation Society, its partners the InterTribal Buffalo Council and National Bison Association and 60-plus Vote Bison Coalition members, the National Bison Legacy Act was signed on May 9, 2016, officially making the bison our national mammal. This historic event represents a true comeback story embedded with history, culture, and conservation.

Less than 100 years ago, the American bison was teetering on the verge of extinction. By the beginning of the 20th century, the species' numbers fell from herds of roughly 40 million to less than 1,000 individuals. The impact on Native Americans was devastating. In 1905, President Theodore Roosevelt, William Hornaday, and others formed the American Bison Society (ABS) to help save bison from extinction---the first national effort to save an American wildlife species.

I find it kinda crazy canadian wilderness had large carabou packs running around in early 2000s according to norwegian madman who was first to cross entire thing.

Speaking of The Orange, Roosevelt was also heavily responsible for getting the Panama Canal built. People today don’t realize what a monumental engineering feat that was. Almost 6000 people died from accidents and disease while working on it, just during the U.S. phase (French tried and failed to build it first).

Heading to Panana for a week next Thurs. Plan on checking out the canal and Panama City. Very excited.

Just did Sagamore Hill on Sat, payed my respects at the Gravesite, and had a few drinks at Teddy's Bully Bar in Oyster Bay.

Was fun, felt like I was on a field trip.
