News Themba Gorimbo (10-3) has signed with the UFC

Well at least they signed a seemingly primarily grappling based fighter in lieu of the primarily striking fighter, which has been the norm. I’m not going to pretend to know about Gorimbo, but from a quick tapology search most of his wins are by sub

Why is it Bellator seems to frequently sign some of the sports best free agents and prospects while the UFC keeps signing pretty low level regional guys?

The UFC is trying to sign talent that will help them open up new markets and appeal to new audiences in different parts of the world

These signing may indicate that UFC is angling for UFC Africa in the near future

EX. UFC creates Road to UFC tournament to sign Asian talent in order to put more shows is in Asia. The UFC signs a bunch of Latin American stars with an emphasis of Mexican talent to try and expand in Spanish speaking markets

Nice. Hope he's main-eventing an ESPN card and puts on crazy 10/10 can't miss fights.

He's lost to some bad fighters and beaten basically no one decent. Who signs a 10-3 fighter that's 31? There's good talent out there to be signed.

Loseine Keita is who they want. There's not many strong African prospects but hes probably the best. Shido Boris Soto Esperanca is another good prospect to sign potentially. If they want to sign guys to open up new markets they should start where the talents at, piggyback off Khabib and start targeting Central Asia, Georgia, Azerbaijan more...Those are hotbeds.

Maybe they can put on an African card also, Usman, Izzy and N'Gannou are stars, Sodiq Yusuff and Manel are great and a few other solid guys on their roster too as it is. Onama didn't pan out last weekend unfortunately.

They already have built a strong audience in all those regions. Not exactly new markets

They really haven’t but it’s because there is not much money in the Russian and Central Asian media rights

Have you been living under a rock? The UFC has signed plenty of great talents just this year along.

And I'm struggling to see what great talents Bellator signed this year other than Barnaoui

Breno, Bilostenniy, Tofiq, etc

Obviously the UFC signs great talent, no one questions that, you seem confused. It's all the regional level fighters with no potential they sign nowadays that Im talking about. They aren't mutually exclusive.

1. They’re cheap

2. They only sign strikers/brawlers for more “entertaining” fights to their casual fanbase

3. They’re in business with ESPN so they have to check off boxes(China, Africa, Middle East, etc)

Well, that's just not true.

Dana recently did one of those interviews where he answers questions from various social media websites. One of the questions was Will we see UFC Africa one day? and without hesitation he said something along the lines of "Absolutely, UFC Africa is coming." I don't put much stock into what comes out of Dana's mouth as a matter of course, but his tone and facial expression implied that it wasn't an empty platitude, but an indication that they at least had something in the works at some level.

They sign a lot of guys who are just prelim filler. UFC used to have standards in regards to who they signed but ever since the ESPN deal, they need bodies to fill throw away cards
