From the moment Georges retired, until Woodley knocked out Lawler, was the most exciting time period for the welterweight division in the UFC.

-Every single title fight was a fight of the year during that time.
-Matt Brown on a career resurgence and finally hitting his prime.
-Erick Silva looked like a future champion and was youthful as ever.
-Rory Macdonald was a fucking animal.

Also, Robbie losing the first fight with Hendricks and then immediately fighting Ellenburger and Brown in succession was gangster as fuck. Do you remember how you felt watching UFC 189? It is IMO the best UFC card ever, and a huge reason of that is because of the title fight between Robbie and Rory.

The era from around 2011 to 2016 was very exciting and it had nothing to do with GSP leaving (which was in later 2013). You also had

• Palhares the maniac at WW
• Hector Lombard briefly at WW (where he looked better than he ever did as a UFC MW)
• Maia who was very good for his first few years as a WW
• Nick Diaz, who unfortunately left WW after his bizarre fight for Condit and loss to GSP. He definitely had some exciting fights left at WW

I love it when people say Askren would've done great if he just came to the UFC in his early years--when he barely beat Jay Hieron in Bellator. Hendricks, Palhares, Lombard, Maia, Shields, prime Lawler and of course GSP were all terrible match-ups for him.

I dont need a finish to be excited. As a student of the game, watching GSP completley dominate people even though they know what he is going to do was very satisfying to me.

The boredom was that each title defense was wrestling, guard control, decision. Vs Kos the jab worked but no finish or trading punches. The Bisping fight was amazing. Technically, skill, dog wise. The fights until after Serra were also very much fun. Second Serra fight was good too, who finishes fights with knees to the body.

It's a sport so he or anyone doesn't owe excitement.

It just became predictable that he was going to outwrestle and decision everyone.

Well actually the Shuelds fight was stand up too. But not the best fight, GSP injured his eye and it was tad of a low level kickboxing Match.

I missed the RUSH era by a hair due to the exact timing I started watching. I saw every fight post Serra damn near. None of them would make that statement true that it was significantly better because he was fighting for me. They were mostly very dull fights in an exciting era. It made me wonder were fans stuck on the nostalgia of whoever GSP was or are they gay and found him handsome. No human way possible anyone saw the GSP I did and make that claim. Unless you’re saying seeing him fight was better than no fight which I kinda agree
