The Welterweight Division After GSP Retired.

Since then there have been 3 anointed WW GOATs on sherdog in Lawler then Woodley (lol at these 2) then Usman. I am sure Leon is next if he defends two more times.

It's been hilarious to witness, knowing none of them were and only 1 was kinda close but still had a ways to go.

GOAT St Pierre bless.
I disagree usman was not close, his only title defenses are Colby, Jorge and burns all of which gsp would 50-44

Usman's resume is so overrated and Woodley is underrated nowadays

I mean, he was a solid 5 defenses away over legit number 1 contenders before people could start discussing it legitimately <45>

I do agree though his title reign is overrated AF. Masvidal never deserved a TS

I agree that GSP beats them all with Burns being the only one who maybe, maybe could have any success. Colby is tailor made to get owned by Georges and Masvidal isn't even worth a minute of discussing.

I remember when then fucktard Rogan said Masvieal would beat Georges. Dude has been watching mma forever and can still come off as the absolute biggest casual at timss

Level of competition matters. The Fitches, Condits, Alves etc that GSP fought would be tough to finish for any WW champ, ever. In hindsight, if anything, GSP's record looks even more impressive imo. Sorry, Chief.

He's just doing his job, which is a Professional UFC shill.

It still amazes me that Usman (and his team) didn't know to read head kick when up on the cards late in the 5th and Leon goes southpaw.

One of the worst fight iq moments ever.

they were probably too caught up in making fun of the motivation Edwards' coach was giving Leon before the 5th.

Lost me at UFC 189 is "the best UFC card ever." UFC 217 makes 189 look like a Fight Night card. There are others as well. It was a good card, but let's not get carried away.
they are both great ass cards tbh, in the top 5 for sure.

Yeah gsps finishing rate definitely went down, but he was never ever anywhere near as boring as Fitch lol. He gets all the blame too when every single opponent knew they were down on the scorecards yet the majority still fought defensively.

People fought gsp just trying not to get humiliated, and took that home as a moral victory. Clear as day watching back versus Diaz, Alves, Shields, Kos etc.

That doesn’t make him a blanket sir…by that logic Izzy is a blanket too

If Izzy was known as a wrestler I would say yeah that's a great comparison.
I know GSP is loved around here, but he had a lot of safe wins.

That's not a knock on his talent sir.

From the moment Georges retired, until Woodley knocked out Lawler, was the most exciting time period for the welterweight division in the UFC.

-Every single title fight was a fight of the year during that time.
-Matt Brown on a career resurgence and finally hitting his prime.
-Erick Silva looked like a future champion and was youthful as ever.
-Rory Macdonald was a fucking animal.

Also, Robbie losing the first fight with Hendricks and then immediately fighting Ellenburger and Brown in succession was gangster as fuck. Do you remember how you felt watching UFC 189? It is IMO the best UFC card ever, and a huge reason of that is because of the title fight between Robbie and Rory.

Take me back.

The speedy youngster Erick Silva is making some serious waves so there are definitely exciting times ahead to look forward to in the WW division

He did, but you know that a lot of people here go a little overboard. Ignoring the context of a lot of those fights or straight up lying about what happened in the fights. Like people calling the Fitch fight boring when he beat the shit out of him lol. Or ignoring that his last 3 defenses were after serious acl injuries. Saying he got pieced up on the feet by Jake Shields, when Shields was going elbow deep in his eye sockets without penalty. Etc. etc.

Everybody's GOAT WW successor to GSP

Gsp could never do this to Usman

The issue for me personally when a uber-dominant champ like GSP leaves the division without losing the belt, is that all the fights afterwards feel like fighting for a consolation prize.

Its also why all the title fights at LHW that didnt involve Jones felt kinda meh to me.

Its also why the LW belt feels kinda whatever knowing that if Khabib got into shape he could reclaim it whenever he wants.
You can't think that way. Time moves on.

Btw I wasn't knocking GSP, I love him, but you knew what you were in for when he fought.

Khabib would wipe the floor with any WW in UFC history. He is GOAT WW without ever competing in the division.
He and Georges would have been a good fight. How does Khabib react to getting dumped on his ass?
