The version of Rose we seen on Saturday would get smoked by Zhang

Lmao, Zhang is overrated. She got beaten by Joanna.
She is very good, but Joanna is better.
Rose isn't the one to beat her though. Joanna will in the rematch.
Zhang has to be on some special Chinese medicine, the amount of power/cardio/muscles.

Any version of Rose crumbles under the pressure and power of Zhang. Rose looks more skilled to me but Zhang is just a beast.

Rose got nothing on her. Zang is too agressive and strong.

I often make the comparison between Rose and Anthony Pettis - they'll almost always win if an opponent consents to an outside striking match and doesn't pressure or push the pace. However, if you start walking them down and staying in their face without letting them rest & reset, they start losing their composure and falling apart.

This is the key difference between Rose and Joanna, you can try to get in Joanna's face, pressure hard, & throw everything you have at her for as long as you want but she'll never break or lose her composure. With Rose, couple rounds at most and she starts to crack. Look at their fights against Andrade, Joanna got dinged early but didn't even miss a beat, and pretty much dared her to bring it on for the rest of the fight. Rose was losing her composure in the 2nd round in both fights and getting touched up, and in the rematch she was starting to panic and fade badly in the 3rd.

If Zhang fights the same way she did against Joanna, Rose will get melted. Zhang is just as physical as Andrade if not more so, punches about as hard but with better form & speed, and worse yet, she has clean hard kicks that she uses a lot. If Weili uses a pressure game where she bangs the body and chops the legs, it's game over for Rose. The only way Rose wins is if Zhang potatoes it and tries to box her on the outside.

Excellent analysis.

Question: Why do you think fighters like Pettis and Rose crack under pressure, while fighters like Joanna can deal with it just fine? Is it simply due to cardio issue, or does it have something to do with how their coach have them spar in training?

Can't wait for this fight. Unfortunately, it probably won't happen for at least another 6 months.

She really is overrated on here.

Given some comments, one would think that she's miles above her competition, which isn't being true even in the slightest degree.

Rose might just style on her and then everyone would go nuts.
I think she very well can

People misconstrued this thread pretty heavily

It was more about saying rose looked rusty and off her game tonight.

and if she has that fire we've seen from her in the past where she puts all the pieces together, it's a very winnable fight for her.

Zhang is good but far from unbeatable. Especially at range

Of course like @aerius said in his breakdown, there are many elements of Zhang's game that can give Rose problems outside that style of fight.

But I also tend to think Rose is better at handling pressure, maintaining the correct distance and fighting her ideal style of fight more than she's given credit for, assuming she's at her absolute best.

Great coaching helps a lot in that.

Rose can beat anyone on the planet if she puts it together skill wise. It's her mental game and how bad she really wants it compared to others that I question.

It's hard to say, I think it's a combination of mental toughness, training, experience, and heart.
I think it can be trained & developed to some extent, but some fighters are just born tougher than others.

But she looked rusty.

Timing didn't seem there, technique and movement seemed off.

she came alive and looked on point during some of the combinations thrown in the 3rd but otherwise it was a pretty mediocre performance from her.

But can't always expect greatness during lockdown

if she comes with that fire, she can beat Zhang.

as of now she ain't ready
Out of interest, when did Zhang start working with Trevor Whitman? Also didn't rose have really powerful kicks once upon a time from her karate and tkd background? I'm not mad at her boxing heavy game at all. Just curious to know when last she busted out them kicks? Like the ones she dropped Watterson and page with.

I think she started with tkd/ traditional martial arts background and trained with Duke Roufus during her late teens where she met Pat.

That Milwaukee style is prob largely responsible for developing her kicking game.

Think she moved to Whitman like early 20's

In terms of strategy and ability to see the bigger picture, I really appreciate that guy as a coach. Now that hes taken on a sort of analyst role as well, seems like his cornering just keeps getting better.

Honestly you're dead on though. Her kicking potential was so good from the jump, its actually ridiculous she didnt develop it even more
