The Unranked Fighters Game 2025 Edition [Under new management: *NO* prize for winner this year :( sorry]

Cejudo: wont fight at fly this year
Talbot: bust
Choi: will he even fight this year?
Hooper: green af no chance to get ranked maybe next year or year after that.
Battle: will he even fight this year?
Pyfer : fighting Fastelum but seems more interested in complaining about Mexicans than fighting.
Nemkov: stuck at pfl wont fight in ufc this year.
Jauregui: will she fight this year?
Oneil: will she fight this year?
Nunes: wants her title pack....probably next year

I sure made picks for this one
1755778098362.gif
Looks like I cursed them all. Battle even got cut ffs.

Haven't done my usual borderline autistic bullshit of charting how everyone's points are going but looking at my own? Man, I'm having a much less confident year here than last.

FLW: Clayton Carpenter (I was tempted to put Mokaev, cuz if he gets a re-invite before 2026, he'll probably be high up in the ranks with just one return win)
Lost the ranking chance he had, now set to fight someone else unranked. Carpenter's not making it a big performance.

BW: Still sticking with my boy Farid Basharat
UFC fucking this up big. Get my guy a goddamned meaningful fight. Still not ranked, still not fighting a ranked opponent.

FW: Youseff Zalal
Heeey, #9 fighting #8. That's 7 points and looking for more.

LW: L'udo Klein
Same story as Carpenter. Lost the ranked chance, booked against someone unranked. Probably no points.

WW: Rinat Fakhtetdinov
Bonfim would have been a meaningful fight, but that fell through. Even as he got a first round victory to extend his streak, I think the robbery stank is too strong for people to rank him or book him better

MW: Gregory Rodriguez
Lost a big ranking chance, but bounced back nicely, now booked against ranked #15, so a possible few points on the board.

LHW: Vadim Nemkov
FFFFFUUUUUUC-

HW: Rizvan Kuniev
Not only did he lose his big ranking shot, it got pushed back to eat a lot of the year. He still managed to end up ranked, until Delija jumped into the rankings and bumped him out.

WSW: Ketlen Souza (Went back and forth between her and Amorim multiple times)
'Lost' 2 fights, though she deserved the win over her ranked opponent, which is a shame. Amorim was a stronger pick, but she's still not getting ranked either.

WFLW: Mayra Bueno Silva
MBS is fighting for a rank later.... at WBW. She only took one shot at flyweight and peaced out. No points.

WBW: Nora Cornolle (There's a chance Nunes comes back, but it's not confirmed, and even if she does, there's still the chance she comes back for a one-off and retires again. I already got burned last year when GDR did that).
Hey! #12, that's 4 points. A Nunes pick could still come out and burn people.

So, 11 total and maybe 14 at the most.

I waited an extra week to see if there was any changes a week off from the last event of the year, cuz sometimes they update the rankings, then do a little 'correction' to that the next week. But I think this is a good a place as any to call it.

I'm a little cough syrup drunk, so anyone is invited to double check my work (I'm using the find tool a lot, so misspellings are fucking me up). There were 19 participants this time around, and I will blame that on the clear lack of any reward for winning this year instead of my lack of popularity compared to Siver. Yes, I'm sure it's the first reason.

*Honorable mention to @Oldboy91 and @UFCIsNOTRigged for getting predictions in 6 different divisions.

This was a tough year. Really feels like a lot of our picks either hung out outside the ranks without ever getting a chance at those fringe 10-15 opponents, or getting random huge chances out of nowhere against tough opponents in the top 10.

As usual, I'll put together what would have been the best possible picks.

Flyweight: Picking Horiguchi (who was defending his Rizin belt on New Years Eve) would have snagged 8 points.
(Otherwise your only chance was catching 1 with Kavanagh)

Bantamweight: David Martinez was the biggest surprise, catching 6, but a lot of people cashed in on Talbott at 5.
(Only other choice was snagging Oliveira at 3).

Featherweight: Quite a few new names here with Onama (1), Vallejos (3), Pitbull (4), the popular pick of Silva (6), a surprising Garcia (8), but the most points would be 9 with Zalal.

Lightweight: New champ Topuria! 20 points!
(Only other new names are Torres, Ruffy, and Ziam at 3, 2, and 1, respectively)

Welterweight: Another new champ for 20, Islam!
(Most other people caught Bonfim for 5. D-Rod also had a bounceback year, so you'd get 1 point for him)

Middleweight: RDR was one of the busiest guys this year, becoming an 8 point pick
(MVP, Robocop, and Pyfer round out the other new names for 5 points, 2 points, and 1 point.)

Light Heavyweight: Literally only 1 name change, Zhang taking Smith's #14 for 2 points. Funny what happens when the top of a division is an instant rematch and the last 3 challengers spend the year doing a round robin tournament between themselves.

Heavyweight: Delija came out of nowhere to get 7 points.
(Walker had a stellar year worth 2 points, and big Tex got 1)

Woman's SW: Kline was good for 4 points, with Gomes for 3 and Thainara for 1 behind.

Woman's Fly: The whole back end of the rankings changed out, where O'Neil would snag you 5 points, Cong for 4, Moura for 3, Aldrich for 2, or Fernandes for 1. Lots of chances to pick up extra points for the few who decided to not pick any women.

Woman's BW: Any Cornolle pick would catch 4 points, with Edwards for 2 or Santos for 1 as your other options. Unfortunately, the bold pick of Nunes was booked just a little too late to pay off for everyone this year the same way the bold Harrison pick last year essentially won that game.

With a total of 93 points on the table, to be l get 50 is a big achievement

A top 10 finish. I know I will do better next year. huge props for people who accurate predicted Champs moving to new divisions

A top 10 finish. I know I will do better next year. huge props for people who accurate predicted Champs moving to new divisions
Islam had been making some noise about going up, but when he beat Dustin and said he wants to go up next, only to be booked against Charles again, then it sounded like the usual noise and maybe not on an immediate horizon, especially when Charles was out and it was Moicano later instead.

But if we're gonna talk about people making noise just to make noise, I don't know how anyone expected it from Ilia. He said he'd move to LW, but he also said he'd be the first 3 division champ and probably at some point said he was going to uppercut God. Ya just kinda learn to ignore his ego over time.

Hell, even as late as December, the only other talk besides the usual grandiose self-predictions was his coach was saying he's gonna move up because he walks around nearly 188, and it was all widely met with disbelief. So that's a hell of a pick

Credit where credit's due though, even if there wasn't a special extra 4 points for guessing a new champ, @Koala still would have won with 42. In as tough a year to pick as this one has been, getting the 2 champs AND 3 other correct predictions?

My...best pick...was WMMA?!

Oh the numbers I posted were the points, not the ranks, so Jean Silva was your best pick.

Sorry if I didn't make that clear, but I was actually doing the addition in my post, so that's why I used the points.

Phew, thought I was going to have to start hanging out with the goon(er) squad
<30>

Good fun, hoping for an even more eventful next year!

Here's the list of picks and the points they scored you.

hahaha
I remember this
I copied the guy who won the previous year by predicting Kayla Harrison at WBW

Doo Ho Choi in possibly his last year to have chance to make real impact in the sport of mma:

Game for the new year up and running!

This game is cool, but champs moving up seem like a workaround, they aren't "unranked" and it turns the game into the Who is going to move up a weight class game.

Yeah. It's really a slippery slope of where to cut it off. Take returning fighters, for example: I think that betting on a Mokaev return to UFC and getting ranked is a prefecture laudable risk, but Nunes is already booked to fight Harrison, so I wouldn't call picking Amanda necessarily "brave."

I guess the risk is just in the loss. Yeah, Islam and Ilia scored huge points because they won, but Zhang lost, and rankers (usually) don't like trying to rank division-jumpers based on no wins in the weight division, so bets on her ended up with zero points.

I sorta just inherited the system at the last minute in 2024, and this year around, because my final quarter has been a fucking mess, I didn't have enough time to revisit this for any substantial changes. I don't know if I'd remove the ability to pick ranked fighters altogether, or maybe implement a cost, like people could choose a ranked fighter to jump, but at a 5-10 deficit, or only half points or something
