People get pushed out due to high rent. How the fuck do you work two jobs and live in your car?

Easy, you work 2 jobs that don't pay very well. I'm on the 2 job low income wagon myself right now.

the owners of Zappos lives in a trailer park and he is worth MILLIONS. Its a lifestyle they want to live.

Growing up, "gentrification" had a negative connotation. When I went to university, my program tried to put a more positive spin to it.

if you live in Silicon Valley. learn how to fucking program.
people move here and get pissed that they cant afford to live in a decent place while working as a fucking masseuse or something lmao

I couldn't imagine living in Silicon Valley without an enormously high paying job to begin with. I dont know how the normies deal with the stress on a daily basis. It has to be masochism.

Irresponsable capitalism, no regulation. Letting in too many foreigners because they have money and they "help the economy".

I hate seeing when a young person cannot afford to live in his home city anymore, especially when the family has been there for generations.

Friends of ours that live in the area live in a trailer home community. It's actually owned by one of their brothers, so they don't even pay rent. For the Bay Area they don't make too much money, but still bring in at least $150k/year and their parents watches their toddler for free. Sad that you can still struggle at that type of income, but it's the truth. Even if they save up $300-400k for downpayment they would still struggle finding a decent place to buy unless you're talking small townhome/condo in a bad school district.

It is a legit question though. How many people that are living trailers and their car or whatever that actually work, could actually afford rent, especially with roommates?

The housing issue is directly related to CA laws and Green Groups filing civil lawsuits agaisnt developers artificially restricting the number of new housing units and causing the limited supply to drive up prices.

I'd imagine that a lot of people who are from the area inherit their homes. I'm sure that's how a lot of people continuously own homes in LA and San Diego that may not make a lot of money.

So you'll have a bunch of programmers and nothing else.

Sounds like a great city.

I’m in the middle of a land assembly. We’re in a condo and us owners are collectively selling the entire building. We are projected to walk away with anywhere between 800k to 1 million dollars.

Even if the stars align and we get that 1 million I still won’t be able to afford a townhome near my dads house without taking on a bit of a mortgage.

It’s frustrating and disheartening considering I was born and raised here and would love to raise my family here. We will see what happens but it’s tough to ignor the fact that we could move out of province with our money, buy a 5 bedroom detached home and still have a few hundred K in the bank when it’s all said and done.

Has nothing to do with new people being added.

Dude, I'm working on a 20% down payment for a house in Calgary but the stress tests and new mortgage rules are scaring the shit out of me. Funny how where I currently am, is one of the few places, I can think of, where a 6 figure income actually feels like it's supposed to. I can't imagine my colleagues who work at Pearson and are rent poor. I don't think I could go back to Toronto without getting a better paying job.

If we move out of province, Calgary would be the place. I have family there and I could transfer jobs rather easily.

Same, during my family's mass exodus from Ontario, starting with me; my family ended up in Calgary and that's where I plan on ending up eventually. I don't want to even start the transfer process until I have close to that 20% banked.
