They are definitely counting those as LW wins but that just further proves the absurdity of the situation. It should also be noted that Conor has somehow remained in the LW top 5 rankings since Alverez and even somehow gained a spot this year despite his 0-1 record over those 4 years.

While Cowboy went from 5th to 11th after losing a WW fight to Conor to 15th after losing a LW fight to Pettis who, remarkably, has been unranked at LW for years despite being the most accomplished former Champion since Bendo and only being beaten by top 5 LWs while also holding a win over a real top 5 ranked WW.

If Conor is still ranked for his one Title fight win at LW 4 years ago shouldn't Pettis still be top 5 too for winning and actually defending the belt? Only makes sense right.... Lol.

I couldn't agree more with your response to the other dude though, how people who are constantly complaining about Khabib, the most active LW Champion in years, "holding up the division", are so desperate to strap another belt around Conors waist is beyond me.

It's almost like they don't actually have a clue what they're talking about nor give the slightest fuck about the division being " held up" and just want to see their boy get handed another belt. Who am I to judge though, I'm sure they're truly just concerned about the integrity of the division...... Lol.

It still seems like it’s not a title fight.

People can ignore the cowboy win, but it happened, and it factors into how people view him as a contender. What would you do with conor if you were in charge? Have him work his way into the top 15 by fighting guys 10-15?

I thought it was pretty clear I was being sarcastic but if you are being serious then yeah, I do. Pettis has actually won fights at LW in the last 4+ years, is a former Champion who actually defended his belt and is about 100 times more accomplished in the division than Conor is.

How exactly to you believe Conor, with his 1-1 LW record should have legitimately remained in the LW top 5 despite years of inactivity but my sarcastic comment about Pettis also remaining in that top 5 is so outlandish? Pettis has done much more in the division than he ever has and has never lost to a fighter ranked outside the top 5 that I can recall.

I would love to hear your reasoning behind this question, lol.

because pettis should be fighting the alex morono's, while conor should be fighting the dustin poirier's.

rankings aren't just a standing based on record. jones can go 1-1 at hw and be the #1 ranked contender and deserve it. same for izzy at lhw. mikey garcia is top 3 at ww in boxing by multiple independent sanctioning bodies going 1-1 in that division. he lost to the dominant champ in his ww debut and won against a lower top 10 guy.

conor would be a huge favorite if he fought pettis.

people need to get past rankings as just a league standing based on record. no disrespect to pettis but literally everyone in the sport knows that he's not on the same tier as conor at the moment. you do too.

Lol, no, I don't. Pettis is a better pure striker than Conor, has a far superior ground game and is significantly more accomplished than Conor in the division.

Pettis vs Conor would be a fight Pettis would not have to worry about takedowns which makes it a good matchup for him. Conor is certainly not on a different tier compared to Pettis and I think you know that.

Conor is clearly on a different tier compared to pettis as of right now. Look no further than both of their fights with cowboy. Or even pettis last fight with morono. He’s not the fighter he was back in 2014. But I guess if that’s your view I won’t change that.

Anymore? It’s the same as it was.

And there is no verified source that this fight is for a title.

And they always said the rankings don’t fully determine who fights for the title.

Why would I look at their fights against Cowboy as proof of anything? First of all the Conor fight was a high profile main event which we all know Cowboy doesn't have a great history with and secondly the Pettis fight didn't start with a faked glove touch into overhand left resulting in Cowboy panic ducking straight into Conors knee pretty much ending the fight before it started.

The Cowboy fight is also the only thing we can judge Conor on over the last several years and it's a fight he hand picked and the result, (imo) is a little tainted thanks to the aforementioned fake tap.

Just look at Pettis vs Thompson to see Conor isn't actually on a "different tier" than Pettis (I know, its equally as irrelevant as your comparison but that was the point).

I've always had a good relationship with you and respect your opinion most of the time but obviously I don't at all this time.

The thing that bothers me is people love to talk about how "elite" Conor is but the reality is the guy has 4 career top 10 wins and Pettis literally has 3 times as many top 10 wins as Conor has top 10 fights (even if you're being generous and counting fights he asked to be at WW against ranked LWs as top 10 wins).

Half of Conors record is against nobodies and he has gone out of his way to avoid consistently facing top competition unless he can dictate the terms while Pettis spent the last decade fighting nothing but top 10 competition.

Conor was an active fighter right up until he faced his first top 10 opponent. He had 18 fights in the first 6 years of his career before this and in the 6 years prior he's had 8 (3 of them in the first year including Aldo).

He really hasn't shown us anything to suggest he can consistently beat top competition (unlike Pettis) but his super fans still act like he's on the level of a GSP or Silva, it's crazy.

The guy's a good fighter and an undeniably spectacular opportunist who managed to make the most out of opportunity's he likely never would have gotten if he had to play by the same rules as everyone else, which, credit where credits due, he's on a level all his own.

EDIT* I'm pretty drunk right now and I don't feel like that came out quite as clearly as I intended so for that I apologize but hopefully you are still able to decipher what I was going for.
 
Flooking brilliant. make a big soap opera out of the fact that Khabib doesn't have the belt and stir the fans up for another 2 million ppl buy.

From Khabib POV though... as long as one of his victims has the title ...it will be considered that he would still have it if he were there. So Khabib can keep the hype going by not doing a fooking thing.
