The UFC should cut Jon Jones...

the fact that he's done it previously and is still only 34 is one reason. who's so great in lhw anyway?
Magomed Ankalaev and Jiri Prochazka.

And 34 is old if you have been fighting since you were 20. He is not the fighter he once was.

No need to cut a retired fighter.

Jones is a repulsive person, but he would clown both Glover and Jan. The belt is available for cheap now. Like when Bisping and Tate held theirs.

Historically he is not a top draw on PPV cards.

You have no idea what you're talking about. When little mom & pop dive bars show Jones' PPV cards when they normally don't buy UFC PPVs, then you know the person headlining is a draw. They're not buying the cards for Dominic Reyes or Anthony Smith.

Anybody know how many fights Jones has left on the contract?
Im guessing one. Which is why he wants some huge payday that Dana is never going to give him. I personally hope Dana puts him on the bench for a few years. It wont be long till he lands in prison for a good stint anyway.

He hasn't steamrolled anyone in three years, he looked like shite in his last three fights (against some of the weakest competition of his career), and he's had a 12-year career in which he's picked up a fair share of bumps and bruises.
Jiri and Ankalaev are looking pretty good, and Jones' best is well behind him.

Jones brings in 500k in PPVs on average I believe.

He is no Connor McGregor but he brings in a very significant sum for the company

I think people have this idea that either you are bringing in a million buys a PPV or you are worthless

There is an in-between. In fact that in between is what UFC relies on to bring in most of their business.

Look at the current state of the UFC. Conor barely fights. The UFC is relying on Adesanya, Ngannou, and Usman to carry the company. Adding Jon Jones to that rotation is HUGE for the company

They want him back trust me

I was with ya until you said Usman..........

Maybe I'm misinformed... but he ain't a draw
Colby is
Masvidal is

Seriously.

Historically he is not a top draw on PPV cards. Rousey, Lesnar, GSP and McGregor, Masvidal, the Diaz bros etc all have had higher draws from being on PPV events.

He hasn't fought in almost 2 years.

He's no wizard on the mic.. he usually comes off as a self entitled asshole except when he's faking contrition.

His last 3 fights have been a travesty.. A blatant illegal knee against Smith, almost losing to Reyes and Santos (both of whom have slid pretty bad since).

He's failed more drug tests than any other fighter currently on the roster.

And his personal life is a PR disaster.

The one thing he has is his W/L record and he's had exactly one recorded finish since 2013 (DC fight being overturned).

Why is the UFC hanging on to him? Let him go fight Brandon Vera again in One FC for a couple hundred grand. Or a million a year in the PFL or he can go beat all the washed up guys he already beat in Bellator.

He's in the top 3 highest paid athletes in the UFC currently and I don't see what value he brings any longer.

Thoughts?

He's not a million buy guy, but he's consistently 500k-750k and p4p top 1-3.
Thats why they don't cut him.

Colby is
Masvidal is

I think you missed the part about MEDIUM sized draws and CONSISTENCY. Kinda the point of the whole post. Colby and Masvidal aren’t carrying the company because they are only fighting once a year. Usman is the guy doing 3 PPVs a year

I really just want to see him at HW, I still think he steamrolls them all

i dunno. i thought he looked great against reyes. he just got complacent and turned it on a little too late.

Sherbro logic:

Jon Jones can get away with anything because he is a draw!

Jon Jones isn’t a draw only good for 500K buys max!

So which is it?
There are different people talking, unless there is a poster with the name sherdog that you are addressing?

Name another fighter that talked about moving up a weight class for over ten years. The minute big Frank beat Stipe he back peddled like a mother fucker.

Yea, but still not a bigger duck than GDR or Nicco.

He beat them all very easily except for Reyes which was a close fight. (Where he incurred zero damage)

They were all #1 contenders and he put Santos in the hospital for a year, essentially ending his career.

He has the most title defenses in UFC history and the youngest champion.

What's the incentive for him to change weight classes while breaking records?

Moving to HW in a fighters mid 30s is just basic common sense.

I swear some of you think prize fighting is like playing your xbox or Nintendo video game.

They lose absolutely nothing by keeping him on the roster.

No, they shouldn't. That's a win for Jon and a loss for the org. Why would they do that?

That doesn't teach Jon a lesson of any sort.

6 of Jones opponents have popped.

A few of them Pride champions where peds were given to fighters.

Thinking he is an exception is patently naive
Never said he was. Just that the beginning of USADA was correlated with the end of a lot of peoples careers. Jon is of note due to how he was a long-standing champion and then had his PED use excused for a couple fights then quit after he almost lost 2x.

Except for every time he fucks up outside the cage?

WME owns the UFC now. They are brand concious as are their sponsors.

He's not fighting which means they aren't making money off him but he's still an ongoing trainwreck.

with all due respect, cutting jones would really be stupid for the company. he's widely regarded as THE goat. and if not THE, then at least one of them. he's too important to the company in that way. if his record was less, then he woulda been cut already. his ppv is actually pretty decent, plus, no matter your opinion on him, his return will most definitely be popular and widely promoted
