Economy The Trump Slump is Here: Atlanta Feds Predict Negative 1.5 GDP Growth the First Quarter

Serious question-

What do folks with 401k, 529s etc do? (im asking on a karate forum )

If this clown is purposefully destroying the US economy. How do we protect ourselves?

Particularly if there is no turning back in site?
Not an finance wiz by any means, but I have just put half of my 401k investments into stable bonds for a while. When the market stabilizes, I'll go back to a more balanced portfolio.

Thanks Ill investigate this.

Log off and check in later? It’s not like America is going down

What am I dodging specifically?

Trump is tanking the markets

The interest rates being high is tanking the economy

Trump is speeding up that tanking with his tariffs
Glad to see you adopting the position i was largely telling you about yesterday and you were in deep denial about while pushing a 'what a Biden' type Trump defense.

I guess you actually re-read my posts and actually understood them this time.

Sincere 'well done', to you in that you can and did change.

This was my position the entire time.

Well, I am sure it will be fine long term, regardless. Although my dad did lose pretty much his entire retirement during the dot-com bubble. He had a fund manager not a 401k, but he was wiped out. So I tend to play it safe when things get shaky. I can afford to ride it out with lower risk bonds for a while, I've had my 401k for 23 years.

Thanks, fingers crossed. It's kind of jarring because we have seen pleasant growth since the end of Covid.

This is probably not the optimum place to ask-

On average Bonds offer around 7% annual return?

So you take the recent loss of the market and place half in a more secure bond if I understand that correctly?

Apologies if I come off as a newb, I am.

Yeah, so basically, my 401k brokerage lets me move money from one fund to another easily, or I can choose to change where future investments go while leaving current money where it is. These are simple things I can do at the press of a few buttons.

So for now (again, I’m no financial advisor, take with grains of salt) I’ve chosen to take half of the money I have in various “moderate to aggressive” funds and move that money entirely into stable bonds. All future contributions that were going to those other funds will now go to the stable bonds until I change it again. Which I’ll probably do when things start to look bullish. Hopefully, I’ll protect what I have for now and then buy back some of those stocks with the same money but at a lower price a little later.

- Rob had a face turn in one of the Hamas threads. Isn't like he cant change his opinion.

More than likely @Rob Battisti saw the recent interview where Trump is basically taking responsibility for any coming recession or correction and saying it will be 'temporary pain before making everyone rich'.

Hard for Batista, in the face of that to keep trying to blame it on Biden while absolving Trump, as he was yesterday.

Amazing though, isn't it.

When Biden took over from Trump he inherited a shit show, due to Covid but also Trumps poor management of it.

Economists on the left and right near unanimously believed the US would have to go thru a recession to correct the economy and some were arguing Biden should tip it in and get it over with as fighting against it could make it worse.

Biden and his admin defied them, and those same economists ended up near unanimously praising the Biden team handling of the economy. Even on Fox business they had to acknowledge how great they did. Record stock markets, record jobs markets, inflation falling relative to wage growth.

Trump comes in and implements some regressive policies (tariffs, mass layoffs, chills corporate spending, etc) and instantly the Trump Slump has everyone talking recession again and Trump saying 'ya...possibly'.

I saw nothing. I’ve been consistent this whole time.

That was early on wasn’t it? At first I saw Israel as justified but very quickly that turned to them being homicidal maniacs.

Yesterday you were hiding behind 'Trump and what he has done cannot impact the US economy so quick' and you were misquoting Jack Savage to try and defend your position.

I nailed you on it and embarrassed you and now today ONLY you are putting some blame on Trump.

But it is ok, i know you won't acknowledge it.

I thought he was really gonna fix the economy, man did he fk it up with the pointless tradewars. All the markets are in the toilet, and yet the trumpets are still swallowing him whole. Lets hope he atleast gets that muppet Zelensky to the table.

Trump is now saying
