The True origin of "Wolf Tickets"

I still don't get why Xzibit never responded to Pac and the Outlawz. 3:40 of this song

Because it was released after Pac died... doubt Xzibit would really want to respond to the track of a dead man and a second rate rap group like the outlaws.

what is wolf tickets ?
well sir, in the story "they boy who cried wolf", there wasnt actually a wolf, so when a promoter says "this is the best fight" or "there is bad blood" it is considered wolf tickets

its an expression before xzibit alright :D many people use it including rappers

Man.. Blood in, Blood out, old Xzibit, Tupac.... good old days mang...

Shit is so wack nowadays! 90's forever!

Let me just contribute a little:

"and if one does what God does enough times, one will become as God is!"

Tickets to Wolftrap National Park for the arts ? They put on some really great concerts there.

Wolf tickets has been a Cali expression before Xzibit said it lol.

Man, who knows how far back this started in the black community but I think it has to come from either the boy who cried wolf or wolf in sheep's clothing or some other fable about lying about or confusing the identity or presence of a wolf.

Xzibit most definitely did not start this. Boxers have been saying this for ages and I'm sure the Diaz's got it from hanging around boxers. Threatening is selling wolf tickets and being intimidated is buying wolf tickets.

And Xzibit isn't responsible for any of this. So give the man a break.

Wolf tickets or "woof tickets" as originally called, involved ticket sellers "woofing" or "barking" about an event to make it seem more appealing than it really was. Apparently dates back to mid 20th century.

So basically TS hears some goofy rap song mentioning the phrase, and then all of a sudden gets a hard on for Exhibit thinking he coined the phrase that Nick Diaz just had to repeat? Lol!

That phrase is old as shit. I've heard it in movies and quite a few songs. over the years.

Do your research man.

My guess would likely be that some writer in Hollywood made it up.

I'm 99.99999999% sure Da' Diaz's got it from The Click. The Click didn't make it up, but Da' Diaz's got it from The Click.

Oh ok gotcha. Why they have beefs?
Well the song Paparazzi is essentially saying you shouldn't rap for monetary gain or fame and the Outlawz call him out on it. It wasn't beef per se just a call out.

Just call out the Outlawz then, them and Xzibit were of about equal stature in the rap world.

From Urban Dictionary:

The phrase "wolf ticket" is the result of a misunderstood African-American slang expression for the practice of verbal intimidation, "sellin' woof tickets," that was incorrectly transposed by whites. Over time, the corrupted nomenclature has become accepted terminology.

"Woofing," or "woofin'," like "signifyin'" and "talkin' trash," is part of the African-American oral tradition. The term is derived from the onomatopoeic expression of the sound of, for instance, a junkyard dog barking to ward off potential intruders.

"Sellin' woof tickets" is engaging in threatening or intimidating verbal aggression, usually without the intent of actually doing physical harm. In West African and African-American cultures, verbal sparring and physical displays traditionally were employed as proxies for physical violence to preserve life and maintain peace and order. Woofin' also can be a means of "calling someone out," of challenging an opponent to a verbal or physical match.

See also "playing the dozens."

A wolf ticket is also a counterfeit ticket or bogus entry pass to an event, like a rock concert or an athletic contest, sold by a scalper.

But with the east coast west coast beef and the murder of 2pac the west was on some unity shit. But who knows why. Probably had mutual people who squashed it before he had a chance. It wasn't like it is now with next day replies.

Honestly the first time I ever recall hearing it was when Nick said it. Some think it comes from that movie Blood In Blood Out. Others swear it's been around for years. I'm pretty sure though that Xzibit or whatever was not the guy who invented it and I don't even think he was the big popularizer of it.

pretty sure it's sellin "woof" tickets, as in barking trying to intimidate someone, unless this is just some new shit the kids are saying hell I'm getting old..
