But the hospitals were definitely overrun at some point, and at least a little bit of this was used to alleviate them.

The numbers just don't check out. Cuomo announced New York had 50k hospital beds at the start of the crisis, and expanded capacity up to 90k through emergency measures. Their peak hospitalizations due to covid was 19,836 on April 8th.

I think Cuomo meant the entire state, and upstate NY wasnt really hit that hard, to the point where Cuomo took ventilators upstate and donated to NYC, then they started crying like bitches

I'm not interested in anecdotes. Cuomo was planning wanted 120k hospital bed capacity late March/early April when those articles were written. I think New York peaked at 16k-20k hospitalizations according to Cuomo's briefings. They never ever used half their capacity. Its possible that some local hospitals may have been filled to capacity because not everywhere was hit the same, but thats not really a big deal. They just take them somewhere else in the city. Everyone who needed care was able to get it.

The perception they are trying to create is "Evil, racist Trump supporters vs Our heros just trying to save lives". And idiots will eat it up.

NYC never went over the maximum possible bed capacity, but thats due to turning 5 giant convention centers into hospitals and even then taking the hospitals outside because the capacity was too full and bringing in nurses all over the country to fill up these additional places.

Yes, it's more dangerous than a cold and most flu strains, but the total death-rate is what really matters, and now that I'm hearing permanent damage to some lungs, that also matters.
