The superfight went to Diaz

I honestly think this will be a fun and interesting fight.

GSP will be back I think too, not to fight Anderson at any point though.

Yeah, well Diaz actually has a pair of balls, so...
a former champ facing a guy who is probably hurting for money and looking for a big payday. If dana called me up and offered me 100k to fight silva a month from now I wouldn't hesitate. Its not about having balls, its about being desperate for cash.

Whitout a doubt. Gsp is a great athlete, but that's where it ends. He doesn't have that x factor that many old school guys like Saku, Liddell, BJ, Nick and others had. Same with Jones. You won't see him moving to hw any time soon because he knows he can get an ass whooping. They care more about their career, $$ and image. Not saying that's a bad thing, it's a smart move and it will get them more money and longevity in the sport. But at the same time it makes me miss the mindset of the old school guys. Saku was a ww for fuck's sake. He took on lhw's lol.
which x factor does nick diaz have? I forget.

Was Hughes-Gracie considered a super Fight?

Just asking.

GSP hesitated all this time and never had the intention of fighting the spider without like a '3 years' preparation or whatever, lol.

Diaz accepted. We all know who's the real warrior at 170 lbs.

1. I believe GSP had a very good chance of defeating Silva.

2. At some point in his career (most fans point tot he Serra fight) GSP was trying harder not to lose than he was to win. GSP was great in so many ways, but he was not a risk taker in any way. Fighting Silva posed far too large of a risk for a fighter like GSP.

3. Despite thinking GSP was overly risk averse, lol at this "real warrior" nonsense. GSP was king of a shark tank division for a very long time and made it look easy most of the time. If he is not a warrior, then no one in MMA is.

4. Diaz really has nothing to lose at this point (other than his consciousness, temporarily).

I'm a huge Diaz fan, but ts needa to shut the fuck up.

It's not a super fight. Diaz wasn't the top WW in the world when he accepted this fight. He wasn't even top five. You know, since he had retired. He was beaten by Condit. AND GSP. Clearly. Guys who have nothing to lose (Chael, Diaz) don't get extra credit for taking a fight when they have NOTHING to lose. When Silva wins, Diaz' fans will come up with some excuse. Silva didn't come to fight. Or he was too big for Diaz. Or whatever.

Diaz can't even beat a piss test on a regular basis. He's not beating Silva.

GSP doesn't owe you shit. He's got nothing to gain by going up in weight to fight a much better guy. Diaz does though. And both are warriors.

He didn't lose clearly to Condit, lets be real now. Gsp yes, Condit no.

The amount of hate Diaz gets is laughable, don't let a few shitty fans turn you into a douchebag.

The real supers fight I am interested in is Weidman vs Jones or Jones vs Cain.

Diaz has nothing to lose. Everyone expects him to lose the fight so if he wins he looks great and if he loses it doesn't change anything. Can't call that a super fight. Its a payday. Silva won't beat Weidman and won't fight Machida so he is sort of stuck in limbo.

Diaz has fans based on his history and attitude but really has nothing more for the sport.

Like Strikeforce ?

Thanks for bringing this up! Strikeforce's welterweight division was anything but major. Diaz beat Marius Zaromskis to win that title, and his first two defenses were against Cyborg and Noons.

That's two guys who aren't even close to UFC material, and one (Noons) who's currently a middle-of-the-pack lightweight in the UFC.

So no, not major.

These. A fight between one of the three greatest fighters of all time, and a guy who's never held a title in a major promotion, is not a superfight.

Define "major promotion."

For the record, I'm not implying that Strikeforce employed a formidable welterweight division. Regardless, he dominated it for a time (although I personally felt they were slow to work Woodley up to his shot while Diaz was champion, as we all know the rasslin' would have been in full effect). Am I rambling? Yes I am.

Strikeforce may have been the second biggest promotion in the world at the time, but their welterweight division was anything but major. Diaz beat Marius Zaromskis to win that title, and his first two defenses were against Cyborg and Noons.

not really a*super fight.

Diaz has nothing to lose.
GSP had everything to lose

Are you the official arbiter of 'superfight' declaration?

In my opinion, a superfight is designated by two marquee fighters from different divisions fighting. It doesn't matter if one guy moves up, down, or a catch weight, and it certainly doesn't matter if there is a belt on the line.

Big names in a combat sport who would otherwise not collide in their respective divisions make for a superfight.

As superfights go, this is the equivalant to JDS vs Glover.
