I saw Section 31 gets a 4.5/10 on IMDB
Section 31 was truly awful
me & my gf were flabbergasted at how low effort & anti-Trek ethos it wasHaven't watched a preview but saw some promo shots and gifs.. Everything looks so low budget from those alone it's crazy.
Instant pass.
Paramount is basically at a standstill until the sale goes through. Marvel was smart and snapped Terry Metalas up to showrun the Vision series. He has said in multiple interviews that he still wants to make Legacy and be involved in Trek. Skydance would be smart to put him in charge of the franchise. The guy went from an intern at Paramount, then became Brannon Braga's personal assistant, and he learned from one of the best TV/sci fi writers still alive. Now he's one of the most in-demand showrunners in Hollywood. Think how cool of a story it would be if he ultimately ran the franchise.I finally finished Picard S3. I started it a while ago and liked the first few episodes, but wasn't in the mood, and wanted to prolong the final moments of my beloved TNG characters together.
It wasn't amazing, but it was good, and paid reverence to the franchise, unlike most of the trash Alex Kurtzman has been dripping out, namely Disco and S1/2 of Picard. They even made Raffi tolerable, smart pairing her with Worf. He was gold throughout, had some good liners, while being a badass.
I can't believe some execs with power didn't do everything to keep Matalas on board and create the rumored Star Trek Legacy.
I'm guessing that Starfleet show is top of the bill, but being far in the future and being tied to Disco (I think) I have little faith regardless.
Hopefully Matalas comes back and we get new adventures with 7, Jack and Geordie's daughter, she was great. The OG cast can have little cameos here and there too, especially Q. I'd also love to see Janeway again, and get some resolution with Sisko, while visiting DS9. It's too bad we lost Rene Auberjonois, would to see him as Odo again.
I'm glad to hear he's still game, as he's clearly the man for the job.Paramount is basically at a standstill until the sale goes through. I didn't even watch S2. I tried, I quit after 1-2 episodes, I'd have to look back at my Sherdog posts to know, it was so freaking bad. But I read that S3 was fantastic, and I saw the IMDb scores, so I leapt in, happy to maybe be lost where I didn't keep up with S2, and it wasn't that discombobulating. Solid farewell.I finally finished Picard S3. I don't know how I finished S2 of Picard, it was so awful. I thought it ended with S2, so I was hoping to see more TNG members and a good send off. Thankfully we got that with S3.I didn't even watch S2. I tried, I quit after 1-2 episodes, I'd have to look back at my Sherdog posts to know, it was so freaking bad. I'm a big fan of the cast of Strange New Worlds and how they've been handling the show. It definitely understands what Trek is. These other Discovery shows were garbage that didn't. Sounds like Section 31 is more of the same.
I am a bit cynical that the Gorn don't have the potential to be a truly great prime antagonist on par with the Romulans/Klingons or the Founders/Cardassians, much less the Borg (the GOAT), but we'll see how things go.
Yeah, they could cut down on the wisecracking. When Trek officers snark, it's always with a sense of gravitas, and a sense of outrage at frustrating cultural virtues they encounter driven by greed, callousness, or bigotry.I don't know how I finished S2 of Picard, it was so awful. I really like the cast for Strange New World's too, outside the shaved-ish headed helmsman. She always has a stupid smirk on her face with too many one-liners.
My big problem is with the tone/writing often. There's too much Marvel-esque humor. Star Trek has always used humor well, but it happens too often on the bridge. It's decent enough all around though, and it's an attempt at doing Star Trek right. The potential for greatness is there.

Man, you sent me down a rabbit hole, as I didn't know there was a Paramount sale, or that Discovery has been wiped from canon. That made my day. Hopefully Skydance cans this Starfleet business (not canon either) and removes Kurtzman and his Secret Hideout band all together.
I was reading that Kurtzman greenlit a S2 already and is filming both seasons back to back. He's like a bad virus you can't shake, though I acknowledge the hustle lol
So much damage has been done to the brand, but at least they have a gem ready to go if they can rally Matalas and the main crew for new Enterprise adventures.
I just watched the Motion picture in 4k with the GF over the long weekend, before wrapping up Picard S3 alone. They did a great job on the remastering. I loved that film, scared me as a kid, much like the Doomsday Machine from TOS.

We've been watching TNG episodes while having dinner over the past few months, but she's excited to see DS9 from start to finish, as I've been babbling about it for years. It's fun to watch it for the first time through her eyes. If anyone cares, there are decent 1080p fan upscales via torrents.
I really miss old Trek, so I was happy the Picard S3 captured some of the magic. I especially loved the post episode scenes with classic TNG/TOS music, beautiful stuff
Nick Meyer is still around. The new company will be run David Ellison, who is a former actor, and has become a huge producer. His father is one of the richest men in the world, Larry Ellison. David is considered, a actors producer, and really cares about making good entertainment, rather than just worrying about the bottom line. He's also a big Star Trek fan. He has been a primary financier on the JJ Abrams Star Trek films.
I hope someone other than Kurtzman takes over. I have enjoyed some of his shows, and others have been terrible. I think he has way too many projects going on, and he farms out projects via committee. You can tell when watching to opening crawl, when the producers outnumber the actors 3 to 1. Give someone like Terry Metalas or Ron Moore the keys to the franchise, and let run STAR TREK.
I agree with the post to continue with the post-nemesis timeline. You still have most of those cast members who are still around and can make cameos and appearances. The Picard novels and comic series like Countdown, fill in a bunch of the canon and story around Romulus. They are great reads if your interested, but without having read those, most of Picard makes no sense.I wish they would get back to the look and feel of TNG/DS9/VOY Trek. I miss that Trek. Although I enjoyed Star Trek 2009 and Into Darkness, I hate how pretty much every single thing post that tries in some way to replicate that look/feel. I wish they would just say that everything post-Nemesis has been it's own separate timeline and return us to the proper Trek timeline. Give us a series that takes place ~30 years post-Nemesis and brings us back into that version of Trek.
Am I the only one who hates that they destroyed Romulus? I thought it worked for the 2009 film, but in the main Trek timeline (which at this point is "in name only") I hate that they did it there too. The Romulans are probably Top 3 of my all time favorite franchise villains. Destroying their world weakens them considerably and is just so meh.
