Television The Star Trek Thread V6.0

But nobody wants to watch that

It works as a small plot of a really good episode

The finale is great and that's where the show ended man

But to delve into that specific story arc as whole show

Not a good show bro
Not only is it not what I want, it's like the writersKurtzmann sat down and brainstormed the direct opposite of all I might've hoped for.

They know there's a segment of the fanbase they're alienating, and they're fine with it.

Garak would fit excellently in this new ST universe.
The actor wrote some books that explain Garak's background in some depth.

Completely missing what makes the character so compelling: the unknown things that more clever writers knew to just hint at.

He was a wonderfully mysterious character and they knew to let the questions go unanswered.

The episode where he over uses the dopamine device in his head was a good one.

I'm now watching Mike and Rich's Re:view from Red Letter Media

Just going to see what they say about episodes I sincerely never wanna watch

Woulda been better if I watched it first but pffft I really can't do it guys hah hah

Watching their reviews is as much torture porn as the actual show

I heard Icheb died before I was able to watch the new episodes and that was a straw breaking the camels back kind of thing

I felt bad for Echeb's character in Voyager and to see them do this to him

<DisgustingHHH>

they don't give a fuck

again - a show was suppose to be a positive look at the future
- nobody wants to tune in to this shit

I can get depressed on my own time

They literally took a show renowned for making you feel good about things and have a positive outlook

to a show that makes you want to kill yourself

how could they fuck it up so bad?

Just cause this new generation and writers are apparently depressed doesn't mean you have to pawn this crap on me

I'm out bros - fully

I feel like they could make a ST show and explore darker subject matter/tones without making the whole show death bleak. They've definitely done this in individual episodes, even movies. ST: VI explored prejudice and militarism but was still ST and still hopeful, and in the end Kirk let go of his prejudice toward Klingons. Immigration, integration, religion, etc, it's been done, there's a blueprint. I've been thinking about how to articulate my problems with the show and I think that's it.

Another big problem is they're not differentiating the universe from other sci-fi or present day. Vaping, the way characters talk, the future trailer, the way the Mars workers acted, etc, that's all too close to our reality. ST always made a distinction so the future seemed different even when using concepts from present day. If there was violence, it served a purpose in the story. Picard getting stabbed in TNG was a defining moment for his character, for example. The action/violence was always grounded.

Anyway, meh, not sure if I made sense here and I'm probably repeating myself. Back to rewatching DS9. If this miraculously gets better maybe I'll have a glance at future episodes.

Because Patrick Stewart says fuck off.

This is the trash he wants. This is his politics brought to the screen in a thinly veiled crapfest.

Anyone can have whatever political views they want but don't torture your fans with this garbage

Fuck him for exploiting this outlet

Before the usual suspects show up to defend this show, I’ll just weigh in to say that there’s plenty of dystopian future science fiction out there:

-Terminator
-Matrix
-Dune
-Warhammer 40k
-etc

Star Trek was like the only science fiction depicting an almost utopian future. But I guess the powers that be are convinced that gritty and dark sells so they’ve taken it away from us. Fuck them.

@Clippy

How old Trek handled border conflicts, politics, rebellion, gray areas, and poor decision making of the idealistic Federation higher ups without breaking the universe:

One of many great moments, love his rant at the end. DS9 bless

Cabon on people complaining about the downfall of the Federation in Picard
CHABON: “Federation downfall”? What Federation downfall? The Federation is still very much alive and well and home to trillions (quadrillions?) of safe, housed, fed, educated citizens with the potential to lead fulfilling lives.

There was a crisis 15 years ago, in the wake of the costly Dominion War and the Romulan emergency, which had a negative impact on the lives of many people, including most of our principal characters, in one way of another, during which Starfleet (and by extension the Federation) did not acquit itself well – in Picard’s eyes.

From Admiral Clancy’s viewpoint, which is likely the mainstream view, Picard’s attitude was unrealistic, quixotic, and even dangerous. She may be right! They may be right, and both wrong. But that was fifteen years ago, and the Federation is still going strong.

Perhaps in the eyes of some, it lost its luster, its air of invulnerability, its claim to the moral high ground, a process that began during Deep Space Nine times. That is hardly a “downfall,” though.

Watching the Enterprise pilot Broken Bow.

It's a good 90 minutes of television.

The infamous decon scene with Tucker and T'pol is laughably gratuitous.

And Blalock's fake tits are disgusting.
<{clintugh}>

The show deserved more life.

John Billingsley is great as Phlox.

It's hilarious how naive the first Enterprise crew is, just bopping around with puppy exuberance, telling everyone where Earth is.
