Television The Star Trek Thread V6.0

Do you think people want to tune in to see their beloved character turn into a jaded asshole?

It's Luke Skywalker all over again
He was a jaded asshole in future segments of "All Good Things" though. It's canon...

oh the writers gave him space dementia so we can accept how horribly different his character is from the show

cool
If you recall he learned about his illness in TNG. It's not a new concept

This show is fucking garbage. No respect for Star Trek's culture. They're too focused on being edgy and political to write a decent story. So many plot holes and wtf just happened moments.

I can make myself deal with it because Patrick Stewart’s performance as new Picard is so different from TNG Picard that I can’t convince myself they’re the same character. My appreciation for the original character is untarnished because this new portrayal feels so completely distinct.

Also

Seven of Nine is The Punisher.

Many will look at that and say "awesome!"

I felt ill.

I've watched these with my best friend, we're both ST fans from way back.
He likes it (loves Disc)... but then torture porn.

You know that hollowed out, gross feeling after having a long, splashy bout with diarrhea? Like thoroughly wiping won't be enough and you have to shower?

...<34>
From what I've heard about 7/11, her character was done more dirty than even Picard. She's an angry space ranger who's been doing nothing the past couple decades? Former Borg, stoic, genius level intelligence and she became Space Punisher.

<JagsKiddingMe><JagsKiddingMe><JagsKiddingMe>

Then Echeb (sp) get murdilated. CAUSE FUCK IT, WHY NOT

<Manning1>

Sorry, I'm trying not to rain on anyone's parade who's enjoying this show but I get going a little too much sometimes lol

Mike Stoklasa's explanation for why they did that to Icheb's (sp?) character seems legit.

The original actor said some shitty things people didn't like, and it came back on him. They hired a different actor to portray him and then the character got tortured.

Not the kind of conclusion I would usually buy into, but it sounds like it could be true.

Hey hey

There's plenty of shows we all like that others don't, and some extensions of franchises we all feel conflicted about.
I can't blame anyone who likes something that just doesn't appeal to me.
This show being bad isn't about taste, it is objectively bad. To quote Chuck from BCS: Kurtzman with a big studio budget is a "chimp with a machine gun."

I haven't looked into it, but find myself wondering:
Is this an intentional sabotage of the characters and the established traits they formerly exhibited, to set up some kind of redemption?

People use drugs, there's poverty, classism, xenophobia and hatred.

Where's the Star Trek?
Where's Starfleet?

How did all this reversal happen between Picard's retirement and now? In what, forty years, the Federation's ideals and policies are gone?

Allowing millions to die is what the Federation ideals have led to? In what, forty years?

We have seen world governments change on a dime before. It doesn't seem impossible to me that this government could undergo changes in the span of 40 years.

A thought occurred to me last night - that this show kind of fuck’s with the TNG finale. In All Good Things Picard was being put through another test by Q, and humanity passed, suggesting it would soon be ready to go on to the next stage of evolution and development. So what the fuck happened?

Starfleet/humanity/the Federation from this new show wouldn’t even pass Q’s first test from Encounter at Farpoint. Q should just show up and pull a Thanos snap on everybody at this point.

I don't think it was ever quite that absolute. He indicated that the test never ends. 40 years is the blink of an eye in the grand scheme of things. Humanity has had much longer stretches of time with questionable behavior.

It destroys it all right back to the first TNG ep.

Kind of amazing.

Watched the first ep because, Picard. That monumental, staggering character built up more than enough of a cache of respect that I would give any series about him a chance, even in this current shameless hackneyed reboot culture.

Watched the second ep because the first ep, while not great, surprisingly wasn’t bad. 2nd one was bad though. Major dip from the first.

Since then, sure enough, it didn’t take long to fall off a cliff, and become just another mess of CGI shit, & meaningless ‘story’, posing as sci-fi, just cashing in on member berries.

Now I watch the show, *solely* to be caught up so I can further enjoy RLM videos.
