Voyager, episode
"Course: Oblivion"

I really like this one.
Tom and B'elana(?) get hitched. It's quickly discovered that the ship is gradually losing molecular cohesion along with the crew.

Trying to solve the problem, Tuvok and Tatoo Face search through old mission logs and consider a situation episodes past where the crew and ship got copied.

They soon realize they're all fakes, copies of the real Voyager crew.

In a desperate effort to reach the real Voyager they fall apart, and eventually Voyager finds the remains without knowing what they are.

Yes this was great and carried on a plot of an earlier Voyager. This fake crew was previously established

PS even the start of TNG, encounter at fairpoint etc gave hope in humanity

3 episodes into picard humanity sucks and I want to slit my wrists
The whole show is about hope for humanity. I understand your out. I'll be honest episode 2,3,4 are probably the weakest of the series so far. Not all doom and gloom though. Last episodes visiting the Riker, was one of the most uplifting episodes of television I've seen in a long time.

Yay one not miserable episode. Thanks for the recommendation

Yep - it's a terrible thing

Further reading should be something a fan would do to enrich the material - not support it entirely

If a show can't stand on it's own legs it's garbage
I didn't say it's required reading. It certainly would help if you want to know some of the back story and greater plot, before it's revealed in episodes.

It sure would help if the show showed us that

I mean it is called a show

But let's read a book first

And then you get accused of not being a real fan cause you just want to enjoy a cohesive self contained show without having to do untold hours of homework
Who's accusing you?

It's not required reading, but it definetly has made the story much more enjoyable for me. It explains how the Federation is in the situation it is in, and the various parties and influences involved. Star trek is now bringing all the TV, movies, books and comics under one group, and are to be considered Canon now.

I'm fine with people who disagree about the show, but I don't understand how you can condemn a show, that now up to its 8th episode, by only watching the first 2 or 3 episodes? Maybe do like your doing and watch it all in one sitting, then make up your mind, instead of watching 2 parts of a 10 parts season arc, then start bashing the show.

This isn't TNG, and they haven't claimed it is. People claim it too political, or the Federation wouldn't act a certain way. Star Trek has always been about the politics of the day. I understand some may not agree with those politics, but this is nothing new to Star Teek6

It's the tone.
The way people act.
The act of smoking or vaping.
The illogical writing of the federation.
The character of elrond and cutting off heads.
Picard getting yelled at all the time.
The plot moving slowly.
Not havings contained character building episodes.
Showing the discovery Enterprise and not tos enterprise
Wrapping the show around soji but I don't really care about her?

Let's be honest here, do you really give a fuck about any one of the main characters?

We're what, 7 episodes in and I still couldn't care less if all the main characters dropped dead. When there's more emotional attachment to secondary characters such as Hugh, you know the writing's dun fucked up good. The entire main cast might as well be a bunch of nameless redshirts because that's how much I care about them.

You know a bunch of feminist virtue signaling weirdos are at the helm when they have the downs-looking doctor hooking up with the Captain. I don't know if I can get past ep 6, wtf is going here, where did this hook up happen? Did I miss some sexual tension?

and @sverre054 big props to you for not only stomaching this show, but always being cordial.

One of the most gratuitous, unearned sex scenes I've ever seen in film, and that includes porn.

I’m sure them fucking would make sense if you read the novels

I usually skip that episode when rewatching.
Because it isn´t the real Voyager crew and has no influence on the story development.

They wanted to have the dramatic challenges that current events give lazy screenwriters.
But it's not believable that the Federation's ideals would get shitcanned so completely during Picard's retirement years.

... so they said fuck it and did it anyways...

Pretty much, its just simplistic lazy writing having moral criises presented in such a simplistic fashion, partly I'd say because the show really cares more about cheap drama and action.

Again for me Trek seems like its fallen victim to a bunch of hack writers/producers who are probably all friendly with each other and are carving a nice little retirement out of looking out for each other in the franchise making sure they have work despite there film careers having failed. Someone higher up needs to have the courage to clean house, fire the lot of them and give the franchise back to the control of people who actually give a fuck about it.

Its not rocket science why the MCU succeeded and Starwars/Trek have failed, the former has a producer in charge who whilst yes he obviously cares about money does realise that he needs to respect the property in order to keep fans happy. The other two have mostly(bar Edwards/Rogue One anyway) become a playground for hacks depending on nostalgia to sell their terrible work.

He's probably referring to Star Wars threads

yeah I love Star Wars AND Star Trek

Or at least what they were

both of these beloved franchises have shit the bed and I get their awfulness mixed up sometimes

Damn, just found out a friend's brother, who would chat with me online about trek from time to time, is being taken off life support tomorrow. Corona virus. Only 42, and no underlining major health issues. Went from perfectly fine, to likely dead in a week and a half. Glad they cancelled Emerald city comic con for this weekend, because I had tickets. Stay safe everyone
