Television The Star Trek Thread V6.0

Just finished the Star Trek: Year Five comic issue no 4. Can only recommend it.

Regarding this topic, the Trekmovie review says:

In only four issues, we’ve seen some really extraordinary storytelling. To see a more serialized version of The Original Series is really a dream.

Does he have any creative control??

He is part of the writers' room and co-executive producer. And the articles I have read clearly indicate he is very much involved.

I am hoping Chabon has a big influence on the series. Stewart got alot of control on Star trek Insurrection and was able to force Micheal Pilla to rewrite much of his story, to how he liked, and it suffered for it.

Pillar, before he died, wrote a fantastic book, on how a movie is made from beginning to end, that he wrote about insurrection. Paramount sued him, to stop its publication, so after he died, per his wishes, his family released it for free via ebook. Highly recommend everyone check it out. Heres the download link

Oh great. Well that’s what I was saying, Stewart having creative control might not be a plus at all.

Cliffs on some of the stupid shit that Stewart had added into Insurrection, which was a huge fucking turd of a film.

The whole movie was radically changed multiple times due to Stewart and other studio heads. Give the book a read, it's only about 30 or 45 minute read. It was his first time, being given producer control, so hopefully he has learned.

Jonathan Frakes has finished filming episode 3 of season 3 of Discovery. I believe he's directing one more episode later this year

the best character on Star Trek Discovery is the Hell on Wheels guy that plays Christopher Pike.

I’d agree with that. Saru is ok too. Everyone else sucks though. And I mean everyone.

But I especially mean Tilly. She’s like Rose Tico on steroids.

I disagree. The captains of both seasons were fantastic. I don't mind Stamets. I even think Tilly would be bearable. The main problem is the Burnham/Tyler combo.

I forgot about Lorca, he was cool, but Tilly is the absolute worst ever. You’d think by the 23rd century they would have cured the world of fat chicks.

Edit: and autism

And baldness?

Gene Roddenberry was asked that question once when TNG first aired “wouldn’t they have cured baldness by the 24th century?” And his answer was that humanity would have evolved to the point that baldness wouldn’t matter.

But I refuse to believe that fat chicks will ever be ok.

Lets not forget

There are only 4 lights!

Just confirmed Jonathan Frakes has finished filming episode 3 of Discovery. He will be back to Toronto in a few weeks, to film a second episode, episode 8. He also expects the rest the year to remain busy with potential directing jobs on The Orville, and section 31

He's doing pretty well. The minimum pay for an experienced director on a 1-hour network TV series is $46,671 per WEEK. Each episode takes roughly 1 month for pre and post-production and filming. No wonder so many actors strive to become directors. Rick Berman did a good job making directors. Frakes, Roxann Dawson, Robert Duncan McNeill, and Levar Burton are all in-demand TV and film directors to this day.

That would surprise me, is there even a series order yet?

It also makes total sense to do this. I think as a Star Trek actor on a (successful) ST series, you can likely survive just on Con-hopping. But the general fact remains that as an actor, chances are your career only lasts 10-15 years until people get tired of your face / you get older and don't get Hollywood roles any more. Producing and directing does not have these problems.

Specifically Star Trek actors also risk being typecast, so having an insurance policy helps.

Yeah, they can make a decent income doing Cons. Even lower-tier guests say like Garret Wang can make a few thousand per appearance, can climb significantly depending on how many autographs and pictures they sell.

Basically the actor and con agree to a set amount the actor, I will use one article with Marina Sirtis I read. She attended a con and was paid $15k for the two-day event, plus first-class air travel for her and assistant, pay for an assistant, lodging in luxury hotel, and a several hundred dollars per diem. will get Pretty good income and they can do them almost every weekend if they choose. The con and actor agree on pricing for autographs and photos, which the con will arrange. They split the autograph and photo money evenly until the 15k is met, then the actors cut jumps up to around 80%. In the end for that con Marina earned around $50,000.

IF your booking say, Patrick Stewart, or say a Matt Hamill, your paying 100k+ as your guarantee. Or you can get Shatner for the low low price of 35k per day.
