I was hopeful the show would realize how badly it flubbed up every twist, especially after they scored Frakes to direct some episodes, and would return to the tone set in the pilot & first half of the season before the "twist" in its half's finale; then immediately scale back the action thriller elements, cynicism, petty squabbling among the crew (which violates one of Roddenberry's golden rules), and emphasis on the narrative arc. Pike seemed like a silver lining, and through the third episode, he still is, but alas, it appears the showrunners are as hopelessly out of touch with the heart of
Star Trek as the Star Wars Disney movie execs are.
It's not going to improve.
