I'm really trying but... this episode might be it for me. Had to pause about 12 minutes in and regroup.

Edit: I threw in the towel for now. Maybe i'll try again in a couple days.

Another great episode tonight. They are really starting to develop the characters and learn of there backstories.

We got some great insight into Burnham and Sarek, and learned some key info on why both she and Spock have issues with Sarek.

It seemed unnecessary and not very funny. It definitely lacks the charm of Kirk's "double dumbass on you" or Data's "oh, shit."

I think it actually humanized the characters, and fit in well with the episode. It shows the building relationship between the character, but I know you have know idea who those people are(besides Burnham) since you said you only watched the first half of the premiere episode. Its a totally different show from the premiere.

Well, obviously, I'm gonna watch both.
There isn't a ST series yet I haven't given a chance.
I tell people to watch Ent, people think it was awful shit. It was better than that.
Discovery premiere, should really be called is prelude, because it has very little common with the series past episode 2. Starting ep 3 we actually start on the hero ship, and start to meet the crew, and begin the star trek adventure.

Orville is campy TNG style fun. It is a mix of sci fi and comedy, which there are funny moments, but a lot of it really feels forced. I hope they keep focused on the fun adventure driven nature of the show.

STAR TREK: DISCOVERY Renewed for a Second Season on CBS All Access

Star Trek: Discovery is going to live long and prosper on CBS All Access.

The network's subscription video-on-demand platform has renewed Star Trek: Discovery for a second season.

"In just six episodes, Star Trek: Discovery has driven subscriber growth, critical acclaim and huge global fan interest for the first premium version of this great franchise,” said Marc DeBevoise, president and CEO at CBS Interactive. "This series has a remarkable creative team and cast who have demonstrated their ability to carry on the Star Trek legacy. We are extremely proud of what they’ve accomplished and are thrilled to be bringing fans a second season of this tremendous series."

The Star Trek: Discovery premiere set a new record for subscriber sign-ups in a single day, week and month for CBS All Access.

The new incarnation of the storied franchise had a challenging two-year road to the screen. Originally slated to premiere in January 2017, the drama starring The Walking Dead grad Sonequa Martin-Green was delayed to May. And then showrunner Bryan Fuller — who grew up as a Trekkie — exited the series to focus on his Starz show American Gods, with longtime collaborators Gretchen J. Berg and Aaron Harberts taking over after the Hannibal creator broke the season-one outline. Recognizing the scope of the show, Kurtzman went to CBS Corp. CEO Leslie Moonves with a big ask: to delay the massive undertaking a second time. The drama wound up launching Sept. 24, with its premiere on CBS before moving to CBS All Access in week two.

The SVOD service, perhaps in response to Discovery's delays, split the 16-episode season-one order in half. The first half concludes Nov. 12, with the remaining six episodes returning weekly starting in January.

While CBS All Access has yet to determine a return date (or episode count) for season two, executive producer Alex Kurtzman — in a nod to the show's challenging path to the screen — told The Hollywood Reporter ahead of its premiere that a sophomore run would "ideally" return "on the early side of 2019." Kurtzman noted that every episode takes three to four months, including production and VFX. (Production on the season-one finale was underway when the show premiered, for example.)

But... But.. A second season.... I thought Discovery was doomed......

I hope that when maybe in 10 years they make another ST series,
they will continue the story after Voyager.
By then, TNG and DS9 actors are very old unfortunately

What an atrocity. I hope CBS loses shit tons of money on this.

Meanwhile any hope on seeing beloved characters, and the actors that play them, perhaps show up once more slowly fades away.

Even with all the radical changes and shit, I'd probably be warmer to STD if it was post Voy, or just set about after the Dominion War. I'm glad some people like the show and that it's continuing for those folks, but man, fuck a prequel series. Obviously nothing serious comes out of whatever they do unless they want an alternative timeline other than the Teenage Mutant Ninja Klingons and Spock's "sister" out of nowhere.

I'll eventually watch STD, reading some of your thoughts on what's going on now has made me a little more optimistic about the show. Shame on CBS for trying to rope in people with that awful first episode. You guys got me hyped on Isaacs' character but I see myself continuing to not like the main gal.

Not sure what to make of this.....

If this is true, especially given Axanar, I think we have a potential lawsuit right here.

Wonder if anything comes out of this.

Really good episode. Really built on and expanded established Canon, too.

Although I love the show, I do have some minor nitpicks from episodes 5 and 6.

- I didn't like that the Klingon's guns can vaporize a person with one hit.

- When Lorca's shuttle was about to be boarded, I didn't like how easily Lorca and the pilot were incapacitated when the Klingons didn't do anything extraordinary to breach the shuttle. Lorca and pilot didn't even get to hit one Klingon with their guns.

- The Admiral telling Lorca her plans to remove him without telling anybody else. And then foolishly going to the Klingon peace talks.

- The peace talks betrayal and the kidnapping of the Admiral seemed so childishly simple.

Saw the preview for the next episode and I'm excited because it involves a Groundhog Day-like premise, which usually delivers when used by other sci-fi shows. This will be fun.

The new Klingons are sneaky bastards.

You'd almost think they were Romulan.

Really not liking the whole "soul connection" between Michael and Sarek. Im pretty ambivalent to the whole thing about her emotional turmoil due to being a Vulcan washout. My dislike for her character probably makes me pretty biased, though.

This whole Stammets thing is pretty interesting. The thing with his reflection and now his personality change? So many possibilities.

It is actually pretty standard for Klingon weapons to be on maximum power, and they would often disintegrate what they shot, but since paser shots back in TNG cost $8000 per shot, I can what the vaporization shots cost them back then. There just vaporizing now because its cheap to do.

I’m enjoying it so far.

The Stammets character is growing on me. I initially hated him because he came across like a teenage girl having it out for the new girl at the school.

I really can't stand the Michael Burnam character.
I can't get over her name being Michael. I also just really don't like this actress. She has very particular facial expressions that make it look like she's acting. She's just too obviously trying to look a certain way. It doesn't feel natural to me. She did the same thing in TWD
THANKFULLY, the show is set up so that the entire thing doesn't have to be about her. I enjoy everything else but her part.

The new security chief also was a good addition. I like that dude.

After seeing more of Vice-admiral Cornwell, I'm starting to doubt my earlier hypothesis that the USS Discovery is a Section 31 project. She's the one directly overseeing the project and she seems too decent a person to be Section 31.

The new Klingons are sneaky bastards.

You'd almost think they were Romulan.

At least it is consistent with their characterization on TOS. The Klingons Kirk had to deal with were almost exclusively sneaky underhanded bastards.

If I remember correctly, Kang was the only one of the OG Klingons that behaved similarly to the way later Klingons were portrayed as. Kor and Koloth were sneaky and not very honorable. They were incredibly smarmy too.
