wasn't an ending it was a way to stop the show but keep the door open. No matter what is said now by the show runners noone had a clue IMO. After Gsndolphini died then it was just he was then he was taken out.

But Tony was always going to get whacked I'm juat not sure the fade to black scene was definite end

I don't know. If that's the case that they were trying to leave it open then they did it perfectly because they even had a scene where Tony and another guy talked about what happens when you die.

The way Tony died is exactly how one of them describes how they think it happens. So even if you're right they set it up so perfectly that it just works.

Shit ending.
All they needed was to see was one of the following:

1) a pistol comes from off camera towards his head

2) a gunshot and things turn to black

3) the camera focuses on the faces of his family sitting opposite being happy and then suddenly turning to horror and shielding themselves

Any of these would have been definitive and far better than the sloppy shit sandwich they gave us

I think just a loud screaming would have been enough. With everything being black still. I'm still fine with the way it ended though.

They also had a scene where Silvio and some escorts are out at dinner with a NY capo who gets shot and you see the blood spatter before the gunshot sound. That scene is what really puts the final nail into the coffin that he got shot and we experienced it through his POV cause he wouldn’t have heard it.

Ah yes I remember just recently saw that scene on youtube. Yea once I read more about the ending online there were so many little things like this being dropped throughout the season.

Genius ending.

It was not meant to be satisfying or pleasant or whatever.

the whole point was that men like Tony are never safe and they often did not get to see the end coming.

I will admit to be a little confused initially. Then I ran it back and it was very clear what happened.

All time great ending.

Chase fumbled the ball on the goal line. He clearly couldn't handle the weight of how to cap the show, which is understandable. But he absolutely fucked it up. And leaving every delusional fan to write their own end scene that never happened is proof of how shit it was. Furthermore, the 6th season particularly the 2nd half, was a disjointed mess. The writing really fell to shit by that point. The first 5 seasons were cruising to undisputed GOAT level. It's still in the pantheon of greatest shows of all time, most quotable show ever, and will forever age well due to the fact that the comedic writing and acting was so exceptional.

The 2nd half of season 6 was meant to show everything around Tony was quickly crumbling and he was losing control, I didn't think it was disjointed at all.

Loved it. The viewers ability peek in on this story comes to an abrupt end. Whatever happens to the characters are up to you

David Chase fumbled the ball with that horrid movie Many Saints. After I saw that I came to realize he doesn’t even know his own source material.
That was soooo disappointing. Chase admitted in interviews that he didn't go back and rewatch the series before making MSoN, and it fucking shows. It would have been much better as a miniseries IMO (unless the story was significantly re-worked)

It works good both ways . If JG said 5 years after (assuming he didn't die irl)) they easily could pick it up . If he didn't then okay he got whacked.

I loved it, just leaves it for the viewers imagination.

I didn’t like it , they definitely overthought it , it was bad enough that I thought there was going to be some director’s cut version where you get to see him get gunned down that they were going to try to sell a few years later.
Still a fantastic show though

They only say he was killed because gandolfini is dead. I don't remember anyone saying it before he died. I liked it.
LMFAO the shit I read on Sherdog.

Here's an article interviewing the showrunner David Chase published half a year before Gandolfini died discussing the debate surrounding the finale, over whether or not Tony Soprano died, a debate that swirled for years immediately following the finale. The debate kicked off the minute the series ended. Were you living under a rock? How were you oblivious to this?

It talks about how many fans were outraged by the episode because so many viewers felt cheated, or otherwise misinterpreted the ending to be an insult to the audience by depriving them of a more traditional resolution they felt they were owed. Initially, it was hated, dividing critics and viewers alike, and I recall the majority of people at the time despising it, with the camp who asserted it was the worst TV series ending of all time legion in number while the few who opined it was arguably the greatest ending of all time were practically nonexistent. Yeah, plenty fans liked it, but few were brave enough to go against the grain, and declare it great.

Fast forward nearly two decades, and that has flipped. It is widely acknowledged as a brilliant conclusion, and one of the greatest series endings of all time.

That's what I meant by it being gutless. He couldnt make a decision so he made an indecision.

"THAT, I couldnt believe."

I had zero doubt the movie wouldnt deliver. Allllllll that back story. The card game, jackie aprille, tonys dad and junior.

Instead he focuses on dickie, that protest shit, and had caricatures of our beloved characters.

Jesus christ, Gandolfini's son was perfect and they give him nothing to do. A total deliberate fuck up and impossible to buy into sopranos ending being genius.

I liked it because you know he's dead. I watched the show long after it was done and it was known that Tony died at the end. I think at the time though there was some confusion and speculation that something else happened and I would have been annoyed by that.
Yeah there was some ambiguity till Chase slipped up saying it was the death scene.

I don't know, I wasn't up in arms about it either way. One of the best TV shows ever made and I've watched I think 3 times now.
