The Soccer Kick

I'd love to see soccer kicks in the UFC, and knees to the head of a grounded opponent.

True, but the 'too brutal, too powerful' argument doesn't stand when you consider legal moves are available that are far worse.

They look a lot worse though. That's what you people who always say this don't understand.

REAL rules for purist fans

First I'd prefer knees to the head on the ground and kicks to the head if both fighters are grounded (upkicks and to defend leglocks, etc) at the very least sanctioned for US MMA.

Personally, I love the soccer kick.

OneFC has GOAT rules. I'm in favour of head butts and stomps as well.

KNEES TO THE HEAD OF A DOWNED OPPONENT

and i think 90% agrees with it

who disagrees i sincerely hate

:(

Really wish they would bring doccer kicks into the UFC too many guys use the 3 point rule to not engage

Allow soccer kicks, knees to grounded opponents, and head stomps. Fuck anybody that doesn't like it, and go watch something else.

Most fighters agree that at least, knees and kicks to grounded opponents should be legal. The correct way to do a sport is to appease the people that know the sport the most. Unfortunately, we live in a pussified society, so the people that get leverage are pussies who cry about sports being done correctly.

Fighters, trainers, and coaches should be dictating how a sport is done, that to me is how a sport gets done correctly. Our society doesn't allow that, which means we have a flawed society in some sense.

Soccer kicks no, but you should be able to knee a downed opponent's head.

A bit excessive to say the least.

Knees to the head of a downed opponent might work though. It could be used effectively and a little more strategically.

It would kill wrestlers, which the american market rely so heavy upon. An inconvienient fact against "ultimate fighting".

I'm not the one fighting, so soccer kicks are okay with me, right guys??

It also stops wrestlers from spamming poor takedowns and then laying on all-fours ducking awkward standing strikes.

Agreed.

Were you not in the slightest disturbed by the full-blown soccer kick Huerta took to the face?

Oh yeah man, that sucked. But that was the ref's fault. It would've been bad if it were a barrage of punches too. But since punches are common, we're desensitized.

If this were true then everyone in Pride would have been landing soccer kicks but they weren't generally the guys who landed soccer kicks trained to land them. There is footage of Shogun and Wanderlei training soccer kicks and stomps when they were in Pride and it payed off cause they landed more soccer kicks than most everyone.

Besides soccer kicks aren't as damaging as head kicks as the lever doesn't travel as far and your landing with the foot which is more frail than the shin.

The main reason soccer kicks aren't legal in the US is they look more brutal than they are, IMO stomps are more dangerous as your head is trapped between the foot and the canvas.

Great post.

Soccer Kicks and stomps = Shogun as a champion

Haha, wishful thinking. In the Jones fight, Shogun was never in position to land a soccer kick or knee to a downed opponent. Soccer kicks are not that easy to land.

It would kill wrestlers, which the american market rely so heavy upon. An inconvienient fact against "ultimate fighting".

It would also benefit wrestlers. Remember what Randleman used to do?

I'm not the one fighting, so soccer kicks are okay with me, right guys??

If I were fighting, I would want that tool. And if I lost by that method, I would only blame myself. Personally, I'd rather be KO'd clean over taking 100 punches accumulate.

as long as fighters try to get in as many shots on an unconscious opponent as possible before the referee pulls them off, soccer kicks are not a good idea imo

thats also the reason mainstream sees mma as too violent. really no need to hammerfist someone who is obviously out two more times.

I'm all for soccer kicks and even stomps. They keep the fights constantly flowing and more dynamic.

I don't know if stomps would be safe in a cage but PRIDE rules + elbows and headbutts are what I'd like to see.
