I tried to read Doctor Sleep and couldn't finish it. I thought it was stupid.

Anyone read the book? Is it anywhere near as good as its predecessor?
It's pretty excellent, and real, real dark. I'd be surprised if the movie goes quite so dark as the book. And it's not really a ghost story like the Shining, which i'm assuming a lot of people will be expecting.
I don't think anyone ever thought he would write a sequel, but i'm glad he did.
To be totally clear, though, it really is not a ghost story (although they do show up). The Shining played on slow, creeping tension, claustrophobia, isolation, internal screaming. This is a different kind of story.

I only liked Nicholson and cinematography in the original, I found it to be vastly inferior to the book.
McGregor's good, if they dont make it a stoopid screamer-filled mess it may actually be good

Did anyone watch the TV version of The Shining? I felt it was a lot better than the Kubrick version.

I have never read the book but the synopsis actually sounds promising. I’ll give it a shot.

He's coming to get you Barbara!

OooooooooOoo
Spoooooooky!

Is not giving this movie a chance and dogging it the cool thing to say now? It looks good to me.

The Shining is far and away my favorite King book but I couldn’t even make it through 50 pages of Doctor Sleep...too all over the place and when it introduced the traveling band of female gypsy psychic vampires I was out.

Skeptical they can do justice to the original with a sequel... but Ewan is a huge feather in the cap for this effort imo.

They need to create that ominence. That's what got the original so much attention. It may be partially due to sub-quality cinema by comparison to today's capabilities... so coming in with all the necessary cinematic quality of today may or may not be able to create that same ominence. Just a thought there, but I recall a lot of liberties given to subquality cinema that aren't given to modern cinema & so that's the dynamic that I'm exploring with that comment. Hope that makes sense.

Looks really interesting imo. Trailer creeped me out.

I've always wondered what could make me snap and join Al Quida's war on America.

Now I know.
