The sheer amount of fights that just don’t matter is hurting the UFC.

And if you don't mindlessly enjoy every fight, people here attack you! "Just shut up and enjoy what our corporate overlords give us." <lol>
Same morons that think calling you a casual is some world class insult. Having Magny as one of few recognizable names on main card shows where the promotion is headed. Like Dori told Nemo "Just keep streaming"

The UFC has exactly one thing going for it that other sports entertainment products don't, you can burn the entire product to the ground (they're 90% of the way there) and two completely unheard of fighters can still go out there and put on an entertaining fight. But that only goes so far when you put together such absolutely idiotic cards and matchups that you can no longer get people to watch. Luckily for sports entertainment products (formerly known as sports), they're playing directly to tik tok, instagram and youtube short money, not human beings.

The goal was always to be a "regular" sport.

It really doesn't hurt it much at all, which is why they do it. If anything it has shown growth that they have so many fighters in their roster that it takes a while to build up the ladder.

Before there just wasn't much of an infrastructure in the UFC. There weren't even rankings.

And quite frankly, those fights aren't for casual fans. If you don't like them, simply don't watch them (it's like people on Sherdog lack so little hobbies that they have to watch the UFC out of habit even if they seemingly hate it).

They're designed for people that just like to watch fighting. Watch the PPVs and ABC specials if you just want to see the stories.
Yup, Dana and co did what they set out to do and made an extreme amount of money doing it. I don’t think he gives fuck all of a shit about where it goes from here. The real product and character died in the mid 2010s, and now it’s just dull.

That said, it’s never been more accessible, and if you really love the sport, it’s a great time to be a fan.

Part of the reason nobody can afford a home right now imo; nobody wants to unite/band together and hold the people who put us into this mess accountable.

Is it a great time to be a fan? I feel that way maybe 10% of the time.

You’re looking at what’s good for UFC’s business, not what’s good for the spectator. Strange

There were 3 legit prospects on the card. I’m glad I tuned in. Taira, Nakamura, Bashi, all looked fantastic.

You gotta get the fighters fights in order for them to get fans. No fight or fighter matters until suddenly they do.
This is a good point. Nobody starts out as a ranked fighter. They start out as an unknown prelim fighter.

Depth matters if you want your rankings to actually mean anything. Having a lot of fighters in each division means that every single ranked spot was earned by somebody.

I assume the UFC have to do a certain amount of events each year for the ESPN deal, Apex is a cheap way to chalk up events. I like there being UFC on pretty much every weekend, not all the cards are stacked (to say the least) but still worth watching, we still get the big cards occasionally too.

UFC has made alot of idiotic fights man without reasons.

Example:

The Poatan vs Roundtree fight (Who asked for this fight?)
Merab vs O´Malley 2 (Seriously?)
Strickland vs Du Plessis 2 (What in the actual fuk? is this sports killing man)
Pantoja vs KKF not sure if this was there second fight but why?
O´malley vs that Bolvian dude forgot his name it made no sense
Topuria vs Holloway (Honestly this fight made no sense to give Topuria to Holloway in his last FW fight)
Leon vs Colby (Where Colby at that point haven´t fought for over 2 years straight! utter trash match-making)
Jones vs Stipe (That fight made sense 5-6 years ago)
Poatan vs Jiri 2 (This fight made absolutely no sense and Poatan just starched Jiri again for the 2nd time complete non-sense fight)
All the Flyweight match-ups

and the worst part is, the fighters are so scared of losing that fights end up as some ridiculous staring contests between two no name bar brawlers trying to look technical

There is no such thing as a free fight night. ESPN+ went from $4.99/mo or $49.99/yr to now costing $11.99/mo.
Plus this card was on cable ESPN which is MORE expensive than ESPN+.

Nothing is free, the sports has gotten more expensive. The free national fox cards got moved to cable ESPN, the fox sports net cards got moved to a streaming service, and PPVS are not only more expensive but require a streaming service subscription just to even have the ability to buy it.

If it wasn't for 4K IPTV services for less then the cost of 1 month of ESPN+ , I wouldn't even follow UFC anymore. Last PPV i bought was UFC 200, only because i had a few friends over and didnt want to risk a possible lag issue with free streams.

You can watch every fight ever on Fight Pass whenever you want… bunch of free shit on YouTube too. Never used to be this way.

I can't stand that cards are 6-7 hours long start to finish. If you want to fully follow the UFC, you have to dedicate basically a whole day to it nearly every single Saturday = ridiculous.

Cut that shit to 8 bouts per card (where it used to be). There is zero need for 11-14.

Three hour cards and an opportunity to cut a lot of fat from the roster. That would be perfect.
