The Sega Dreamcast

Shenmue might be the greatest waste of potential I've ever seen

It's a little choppy, but that game was amazing as a kid. 2 was awesome as well. It also had one of the best soundtracks ever.

Shenmue 3 for PS4 looked a bit shit though.

Yakuza series smokes then all.

It was overrated IMO. It did have some good games, but Sega really jumped the gun on next-gen and had a severely underpowered system on their hands. Without Tom Kalinski's magic touch it probably would've been slaughtered regardless when the PS2 and X-Box came out.

The Dreamcast was the first console release that I pre ordered and picked up at the Game Stop launch. I don't remember if it was a midnight launch.

Did anyone ever play Blue Stinger? It was one of the launch titles that tried to be Resident Evil. It was a broken, campy, mess, but man I loved that game.
I would've loved Blue Stinger if I could play it. I was one of the lucky ones that got a copy that had the game breaking bug.

I think it could've competed, but it was a really strange format. It hit the same snag the Gamecube did, but SEGA didn't have the deep pockets of Nintendo to weather the storm.

The Gamecube sold pretty close to what the X-Box did (21.75 million to 24 million) without having dvd playback, full capacity disks, or a legit online service (it had games, graphics, and the Nintendo reputation/backing). The Dreamcast didn't even sell half of what the Gamecube did (a little over 9 million), that's more of a Turbo Grafx 16 type performance as it wasn't a head on competitor (sort of an in-between generation system like the WiiU or 32-X, 3DO, or Jaguar.
I don't know if there would have been room for a legit fourth system if the Dreamcast wasn't released early and underpowered (along with Sega's other mismanagement issues). I'm not saying that the Dreamcast would have lost out, but it would have been very interesting as to what would have developed. Just another what if like if the N64 was a cd system (or had an add on), if the Gamecube used dvd's instead of mini dvd's, if X-Box didn't kill the X-Box One before it ever came out with its' disastrous E3 presentation, if the Wii was capable of outputting in hd, if the PS5 and X-Box series X didn't have the poor release windows, scalpers, and chip shortages that they did, etc.

shenmue was amazing on dreamcast, didnt really enjoy the ps4 game though. Felt a little slow and unfocused, how did you like it?
I played Shenmue II on the Xbox. I thought it was better than the first one. I purchased III for the PC but haven't got around to playing it yet.

They had some momentum with the 2K lineup but once Madden dropped on PS2 it was a wrap

It's a shame EA wouldn't support the DC after how great they were for the Genesis.

EA is basically the porn industry in this regard. Whatever format they choose, the rest fall in line.

I'm a little surprised they haven't tried their own console. They're certainly powerful enough.
