And I think that uncertainty was why he pushed so hard to have this go away, aside from all the investigations it would spawn. They knew they were doing a Bad Thing, but not enough to know that the Bad Thing was illegal.

Ultimately, Trump is an authoritarian prick with a strongman fetish, but i'm cool if he didn't collude with Russia. He did know about it in advance though, and that's a loophole that I think we need to plug going forward. He also attempted (succeded?) to obstruct justice though, and I think that needs to be addressed in the here and now.
