The Race Issue at the Oscars Discussion Thread

if we cared about soccer, we'd dominate like every single other sport. Like i dont know, our women that don't have as many options to make money as an athlete

Yeah, when it comes to soccer, money and infrastructure are important, but they have a ceiling on what they can accomplish.

The US, Australia, Japan, Mexico all invest big, improved quickly, but then hit that ceiling. The US especially has so almost unlimited resources that go beyond soccer-specific stuff. I mean, the vast majority of high schools in the country have soccer teams with fields, weight rooms, buses, great stadiums, etc. That the state can subsidize an athlete until the age of 18 is completely and totally unheard of everywhere else in the world.

Culture plays a big role in soccer. This is why the elite teams still come from the same areas as 100 years ago- South America and Europe.

More like Europe entirely, the core of the elite south american teams, all play in euro leagues.

Hollywood is a business. China and Europe don't go see movies with black leads. So that impacts worldwide box office numbers. That leads to fewer opportunities. But Leo deserved the Oscar as did the other winners. Fuck Will Smith.

I heard it was a great oscars, condemn racism then mock asians, everyone was laughing it up and having a good time throwing asians under the bus in order for whites and blacks to reach a common understanding.

China yes, Europe not so much.

I meant what region they come from, not where they play professionally.

But thats a big reason why relatively wealthy league countries like Mexico dont have a good soccer scene, the local scene and fame are enough and a lot of players lose the "eye of the tiger" and change their passions for glory.

Thats why Mexico its a powerhouse in the U-17, and won gold in the 2012 olympics (which is U-23). But these talented kids just fall off real quick when they enter the Mexican league, since they become basically TV stars with no other purpose but to generate money.

They would rather be a big shot here than trying to become someone in Europe.

In the Argentinian and Brazilian leagues you have the young talents and the old declining veterans, but the vast majority of the footballers in their teams play in europeal league like aroiund 80-90% in a given team, while the opposite is true for the Mexican and US teams, they have like 80-90% local players.

Thats why there countries will never amount to anything in soccer, their players are like a fed zoo lion going against a wild lion.

Javier Hernandez sucess is the representative of the kind of guy that makes a team great, the guy was big in the mexican scene and took a leap of faith to try and make it in Europe and after being benched for a while had his breakthrough in the german league.

Giovanni Dos Santos is the opposite, guy had talent, became big started dating TV stars and became erratic, couldnt tolerate being a nobody in Europe and now plays in the MLS.

Blacks always be crying when Asians were getting a raw deal

GTFO of here with your facts and logic:)

As a minority it's super hard to give a shit about this, even a little. Most of the best black actors have an Oscar or multiple oscars. Maybe their just weren't any performances they felt warranted an oscar this year. either way it's an insider award show decided entirely by politics within the industry. Lol at anyone that thinks the actors and movies that win are the best in any given year. It's all bullshit.
