The Pub - Belph's Battle with Anorexia

I want to learn to surf. Anyone got any advice?

While that's a good idea on paper, in nfld I get paid 6 figures at 22, in a town where the average income is in the 20's, so I'll be staying here for a bit. I keep considering leaving, but that's a few years away.

The intention was to go somewhere warm on the east coast, like Florida somewhere, and save surfing for vacations...

Dude. You could totally be living that Dan Bilzerian life.

Dan, I meant just traveling there. It's on the east coast, only reason.

California is fun. Drove from Vegas to Calistoga, just north of San Francisco, with my parents a few years ago. Epic trip. I loved NorCal.

Ah I see, I read that wrong.

I still need to get out to Canada's East Coast. I was there when I was like 10 years old but haven't been as an adult. My wife got to go to NFLD for a work conference 4 or 5 years ago and I was super jealous.

If I had the time and money I'd love to drive across the U.S. to California. Something like:

- Head west to Chicago
- (something between Chicago and Colorado)
- Camping in Colorado
- Check out Bryce Canyon (Utah) and the Grand Canyon (Arizona)
- Spend a few days in Vegas
- Drive up the West Coast

The most likely thing is that I'd do those in separate trips. And that's not to mention that I'd like to drive West across Canada too. Basically I need to win the lottery, lol.

Be sure and drive through the south at some point. The deeper the better. Experience some culture.
Drive up random county roads and start some shit.

Is it BYOB down there? (Bring your own banjo?)

I would actually like to see all of the U.S. but then I feel like I'm getting carried away because I haven't even seen all of Canada. After my honeymoon (where we drove around all of Ireland) I realized that as an adult I'd only visited 3 of Canada's 13 provinces/territories.

I spent a lot of time in FL growing up & now live in Southern Cal. Surfing is a lot of fun & FL is a decent place to visit & try it out. The water is warm but waves are usually super small. Most of the time too small to surf I think. The way they make up for it is usually surfing inlets where a river or waterway opens to the ocean, but those brackish areas are usually a little sharky lol. Good news is its mostly small sharks in FL :)

With that said, pick a destination (Maybe Daytona or West Palm?) and head out. Any of those beach towns will have surfboard rentals - get a big one, at least 9' & go try it out. Probably worth paying for a 2 hours lesson - that will go a long way..

EDIT: If you're over 200 pounds, board needs to be at least 10'
