Media The Philly Shell Has Entered The UFC

Meh. Rather have a Philly Cheesesteak...

New York Cheesecake is better. Matter fact, I made these medium rare picanha sandwiches with tatziki, arugula and roasted onions on ciabatta, better than anything you'd find in Philly.

I'm very xenophobic towards Brazilians, but Christ Almighty, do they make a fine picanha.

Great video.
Poor description of the video producer. Varga is legit.

It's not the philly shell (or whatever stance Strickland used) that is the core of his success. It is the amount of time spent sparring, the number of different fighters he sparred with that gave him the ability to see shots coming and stay composed in the fire.

Bingo. Izzy throws mostly 1-3 strikes at a time so what Strickland needed was a way to defend single strikes and short combos while staying in range to hit him back. There's several ways to do that and the Philly Shell is just one of them. Strickland could also have used the Dracula Guard to accomplish the same goal; it also defends the punches from Izzy while allowing Strickland to come back with a quick 1-2 along with knees & kicks.

agreed a giant advantage of his is how composed he stays. It's like he hates breaks between rounds, dude paces around and smacks himself in the head, barely even listens to his corner.

But in MMA people can change stances so often it’s weird that it works. I mean do they have leg kicks in Philly?

Native Philly guy here and yea alot of guys just grow up instinctively using a Philly shell or at least a modified version of it. Street fights growing up guys liked to have that lead arm kinda dangling and showboating it so the jab could come from anywhere -and sometimes they got clocked for it because they didnt actually use their turn and shoulder properly. Even in MT gyms and MMA, youll still see guys use it, i do myself but im constantly changing guards between PS and High guard and the stance is inbetween the bladed stance of a boxer and squared set of a thai. Now if im up against a really good low kicker Ill abandon it and change stance to be more squared

Also if you're ever in Philly the proper way to order is "Provolone/Swiss Wit/or Widdout" or youll get soup nazi'ed.

I vaguely remember sherdoggers freaking out about this when CB Dollaway did a shoulder roll counter ko on a fighter back in the day. Anyone remember?

what if you had a cheesesteak then a cheesecake right afterwards
would you simply implode from too much cheese
i am willing to try this experiment if the materials are provided

See the following comment below.
They'll force you over the river to Camden.

Whether you like wiz or prov, John's Roast Pork makes the best cheesesteak in Philadelphia...

Not from there, but can concur.

So maybe it’s the Strickland shell

Good call; but -2 points for missing Stricky Shell.

Sounds delicious (and you're probably right) but don't do that!

A man of culture here. Just have to remember not to call it a philly cheese steak while in Philadelphia. They take that shit seriously lmao.
