The original script for The Matrix was way more interesting

I've just read that originally the Wachowsky brothers wanted the humans to be the processors and simulators of the Matrix, basicly human brains were the computers powering and creating the Matrix, so as Morpheus began to awaken people from the Matrix he also withdrew power from the Matrix so that the Matrix would start to have glitches, become more uncanny/less real and the facade would be more noticeable to other humans.
But then they told them to dumb it down and they had to resort to the silly idea of humans as batteries.

''The original story had the brains of the humans being used as part of a neural network for additional computing power. But the suits thought that was too hard for people to understand. So instead we get them as batteries''

''This blew my mind when I heard it. Fixes so many plot holes in that movie, and makes so much more sense.

    • The battery explanation requires you to ignore conservation of energy to make any sense

    • Explains why humans are better suited than any other random animal (more brain power)

    • Explains why humans have to be kept semi-conscious

    • Explains why humans are able to affect the matrix (they're executing the code themselves)''

Still doesn't mean they could've made good sequels.

I always thought that the battery thing could be explained watching the animatrix. Underneath everything, in their original code, which they can't go against, is to do best by humans or serve humans. So after the humans tried to kill theme unsuccessfully by blocking out the sun, that this was the way that the robots could keep the most humans alive.

yup

I think the Animatrix explained it why we were the batteries.

It doesn’t matter. The matrix ONE is a flawless movie. They shit the bed with 2 and 3, those insulting atrocities.

Too many pea brains in this thread fail to recognize the brilliance of the Matrix 2
You guys need to watch it 20 more times.

That's too bad they had to dumb it down. Using semi-conscious humans for a neural network sounds like a much better basis for a Matrix than the silly battery thing. They or someone should make a movie based off that idea in the future, if they could make it different enough from The Matrix.

The battery was a fun little analogy for how humans just work to support a system that doesn’t care about them until they’re dead.

It still would've been shit.

Most overrated film of the last 20 years.
