Movies The Odyssey (2026) - First Trailer

Nothing bizarre about it. But I get pretending to not understand things is the extent of discourse for you and your tribe.
In your estimation of history, were the greeks more aware of Northeast Africa or Britain?

Again, Mansa Musa is a real historical figure. Oppenheimer is a real person.

Those in the Odyssey are not and were even considered mostly mythological by the Greeks when they got around to writing down later versions of the story.
Yeah, Greek myths. If there was a movie based on a Nubian myth from the same era an important mortal female character sure as heck would not be played by a white actress.

Then why aren't you complaining about Tom Holland being in the movie?

It's far more likely that an African would be involved in Greek history during this time period than a dude from Britain.

Let alone an actor from Colombia.

All I see so far is people clutching pearls that a director known for casting actors they like in films that tend to skew away from historical fact cast a black women in an unclear role in an unreleased movie that will probably be typical Nolan fare.

It is sold to an American and Euro audience first and foremost. The cast will speak in English they will be dubbed for certain markets.

Why would i complain he looks like he fits. Look at how modern Croatians, Greeks and some white looking Turks look.

You do understand that it was hard to travel all the way from Nubia to Greece. She is a Spartan queen. She will be white.

I will perfectly happy is she is not Helen of Troy. She can play a godess if it is done well.

He did not make Oppenheimer black last time i checked.

They were more aware of white looking Thracians and Macedonians / proto Macedonians than Nubians.

I’ll much sooner suspend disbelief that Helen of Troy is black than Lupita being hot enough for wars to be fought over her. My imagination is not that good!

Again, I have no problems with an adaptation of a myth not being perfectly accurate if identity is not intrinsic to a character and depending on how the adaptation is positioned.

It's telling that you're only complaining about Lupita's casting, rather than Tom Holland or John Leguizamo. Last I checked the Greeks knew about Northeast Africa and to a lesser extent Britain. They certainly didn't know about Colombia.

All of those are historical figures. The characters and the events in the Homerian epics are not.

How dense are you that you think Homer's works are anything but fiction with a small sprinkling of history?

Again, you might as well whine whenever school plays adapt Romeo and Juliet and the cast isn't Italian.

You also never answered directly here. I take it it's because you didn't know?

You also appear very unaware that Ethiopia is literally in Homer's works.

Not sure if you are being deliberately dishonest or not. You keep failing to understand that a myth can still be grounded in a specific and real time and place, like the Mycenean GREEK period, and its a specific Greek tale not a generic myth. It has nothing to do whether the characters were real or not. Ethiopa is also irrelevant, and just a deflection as it was a specific Greek tale with Greek characters literally set in the Greek Kingdom.

He is. It's literally all he's been educated in. How to argue dishonestly. All of his tribe is like this. Waste of time to engage in good faith with them

I'm fucking pumped for this one...
But I'll always have problem with putting a 20 years long journey into a 3hrs long movies...

It still fun to strip them of arguments and leave them only with ad hominem.
Depending on their skill I agree lol

Edit: and your energy. After this long I've found I've got zero patience for them especially when they make it so clear
