A friend of mine caught an early screening at a theater he works at. He said it was the funniest movie he has seen by far this year with the dumb rapid pace humor that landed for him. He went in ready to rip it to shreds so I was surprised.

Still trying to keep my expectations low but going to watch this over the weekend.

The trailers have made me laugh quite a bit. I plan on smoking some good weed and going on Friday

I was immediately against this from the start cause it's clearly not gonna live up to the original. But then I thinking, nobody's doing big comedies anymore so what am I doing here complaining here. So instead I'm gonna go on with an open mind and good faith , I want more big budget comedies.

First reactions for The Naked Gun from the premiere.

This was a for sure weekend watch for me, might have to go Thursday now lol. I badly need a comedy to watch after the long work week, this came out at the perfect time.

Gonna be a solid weekend, Bad Guys 2 is getting good reviews too.

Honestly, I thought it would look worse. The teaser looked like shit, especially when I compared it to the originals (which are some of my favorite comedies), but this trailer could have been worse. Some of the gags could have come from the originals, and Liam Neeson handles comedy well. I'm not sold on this yet, but my mind is more open now than it was before.
Agreed. The teaser (minus the gag at the end where you have the Frank drebin shrine, only to pull out and there is a shrine for everyone) looked awful but I actually got a lot of laughs out of the full length trailer. Police Squad and the Naked Gun are my favorite comedies ever, so this will never live up to it, but im hopeful for some big dumb laughs at the very least

Saw this earlier today and was greatly disappointed. If anything it made me love the original and Leslie a lot more. There were some good laughs but overall most of the jokes weren't funny/already seen in the trailer/constant gags done over again. I had really high hopes for this because of the great reviews it got plus the trailer did have some funny jokes but it falls short for me.

6/10 at best

Thanks for the first reaction on the movie. I won't be able to see it yet but I've been avoiding watching any trailers or clips of it as to not spoil all the jokes because for me they only have one shot of making you laugh and I want to experience it all in a theater filled with people.

It felt like they showed the trailer for every movie I've seen this year. My expectations were really high for this hoping it would somewhat restore the dead genre of comedy but to me comedy movies are still dead.

I also had 2 incredibly annoying people in the theater, one being a 500 lb black guy who laughed at every single joke (the entire theater was dead silent for the bad jokes but not this guy) also an annoying white lady in my row who didnt laugh at all she would just say very loudly 'OMG' or 'oh that's funny' but never once laugh lol

There is a scene i really liked a lot that tickled my funny bone really good im sure you will like a lot, ill make sure I quote you again when you get around to seeing it.

I want to give this movie a try, but I'm not a fan of that type of comedy. Movies like Naked Gun and Airplane, although I know they're iconic and people quote it all the time, I just can't get into them. So when I heard about this new one, I tried going back and giving the originals a try...just not for me.

LoL, I was gonna ask if there was anyone else in the theater because we've already established how much that can drastically alter your score

The subgenre is farce. Yeah, it was never my thing, either.

Although I hated it when I was a kid, but it has grown on me a bit. I laughed my ass off as an adult at this scene.

Back when I was a kid, these type of comedies were my thing - Police Squad, History of the World, Airplane, Airplane 2, Sledge Hammer, Top Secret, Spaceballs and the first Naked Gun. But it started to wear off on me (or maybe it was the quality of the films) during Hot Shots and the second Naked Gun and I haven't found any of the parody movies very funny since then. So I'm very curious how I would respond to this reboot today in a theater.

- I re-watch the thre original movies almost every year. Nobody can match Nielsen on this genre.

Dracula Dead and Loving It at Halloween and Santa Who? at Christmas.

There are audition tapes of him auditioning for Ben Hurr or something way back and even him doing a serious role makes me laugh.

Maybe it wore off, but maybe it was just the quality of the subgenre took a nosedive. The Mel Brooks era was the golden era of farce.

Even troupes like Monty Python had farcical elements to their comedies. Monty Python and the Holy Grail is equal parts satire and farce.

They're always hit and miss. They're like sketch comedy shows. You really have to catch lightning in a bottle for them to be memorable and consistently have most of the gags land.

That said, we had those brother directors not too long ago, that did the bare minimum and made a fortune. Just horrible spoof comedies that seemed to never end, that got by on brand recognition and little else. That might be where your sour taste is coming from. Remember all the "_____ Movie" flicks that seemed to come out every other month, because they were so cheap to produce? They did a LOT of damage to the genre.
