The mystery of UFC letting Megan Anderson go

WMMA fans are not real MMA fans, just look at this guy's existence here on Sherdog... what a joke?!
Knowing they just had a FW fight two weeks ago makes me a joke? Sounds like I’m the guy that actually watches the UFC.

Contact not renewed = cut. Stop playing semantical games, the UFC never wanted her anymore.

MMA was getting in the way of her video gaming.

She always acted like a asshole to me. Not surprising they didn’t want to deal with her anymore, on top of not being championship class. She was just a big, lanky, size bully.

The 145 lb division only exists to give Nunes highlights. Freaking Norma Dumont is going to get a title shot guaranteed after that snoozefest fight night main event the other week.

yeah this, I guess not always like Werdum and Andrei, but yeah I share this opinion for most cases

She fights in a division with like 3 people lol she isn’t necessary and also had one of the worst title performances ever seen.

Good riddance

Did you see her fight with Nunes?

She was scared and pathetic from the opening seconds until she was KOed.

Even when they showed her walking into the building her facial expressions were saying "I REALLY don't want to be here. Can we leave, please?"

Every fighter's purpose in the UFC, regardless of weight class and gender, should be to get the damn belt. Megan Anderson made it clear when she had the opportunity to get the belt she didn't want it.

So, she was cut. She can fight in another org and not want the belt there.

Megan sucks yes, but she can be elite WMMA fighter.

She was tall, lanky, huge, and she had unique power for WMMA and dangerous on the feet with a great coach in Krause.

Holm got besmirched by Nunes too, you know, doesn't mean she's bad.

If Holm and Megan fights, I'm fairly sure Holm will try to hug her to death against the cage, I actually think Megan beats Holm.

And I think Megan-Nunes, I don't think I've ever seen a worse case of someone losing way before the fight itself. I think she got shook hard

You really like that word, don't you ;)

Whether we call it getting 'cut' or not does not seem to matter much...the end result is the same. Although unusual to let someone go into a title fight without a new deal, it does make sense here when we consider the nature of most UFC contracts alongside the state of the 145 division.

If Anderson beat Nunes, then the 'champion clause' applies, which allows the UFC to extend her contract...so there was no particular need to re-sign her before the fight.

Beyond Nunes wanting to defend the 145 belt, there really isn't a 145 division (the UFC doesn't even have official rankings lol)...so any motivation to retain Anderson after the fight probably hinged on it being super competitive and motivating a future rematch...but Nunes murked her in two minutes.

Despite the lack of a 145 roster, I can see why they keep the 145 belt around. I assume it makes Nunes happy and helps her to 'build her brand' . It is also a useful marketing tool for the UFC and provides flexibility in finding title challengers for her since they can come at either 135 or 145.

Since it would be hard for someone to regularly defend two titles (that means 4 fights per year), for now it makes sense to just have Nunes defend at 135 and then have 145 title fights whenever a compelling challenger is found. Still, it would be nice to see them try to build a 145 roster, because Nunes won't be around forever...

The word came to me lol

and interesting point about title win locking her up, haven't thought of that, I guess UFC wasn't going to lose out that much even if Megan won.

Well, she probably wasn't going to win that fight anyways....everyone knew that...including Megan from what she looked like before fight.

Not too expensive

Overinflated sense of her own worth

Well they are the same thing! But she is putting value on her popularity outside of the ring. She is basically a less popular version of PVZ.

Wouldn't be too expensive if she was worth it. Too expensive for UFC just means cost more than the value they get in return for it.

We need the theme for the undertaker dubbed in as background music for this video of her walking, Or if you want to be inspirational pop some Enya on there, better yet put the Sarah McClauckland sad puppy killing commercial song on it.

and Dana actually said in the Contender series presser that Mike Perry was the same : his contract expired and the UFC simply chose not to renew it.

OMG it is the same fucking thing. They got rid of her. Shit. Fuck the dumb ass semantics shit.
