The most career altering fights?

Also:
Lots of fighters after USADA

Miguel Torres: 24-1 going into his fight against Roger Bowling. He went 7-7 after that loss.
IDK, that was about the softest 24-1 you've ever seen. You will notice after that fight the level of competition was a lot better which more the problem than losing the Brian Bowles.

In the early MMA days, a lot of the bigtime wrestlers seemed to quit after getting finished once or twice. Maybe because there wasnt any money it - or maybe they decided it wasnt for them.

Kevin Jackson, Royce Alger, come to mind

But the answer 100% is Ronda and it's not close.

People forget how stupid that hype train was and how much Holly gloriously ended it in the most vicious manner.

Lest we forget - we had to even debate silly things like Rogan shilling that she would beat male fighters on the roster. Once she got splattered by Holly it all ended overnight and she just drifted away.

Khabib Vs McGregor. Not only it made UFC more popular by be the best selling ppv and probably most watched MMA fight ever but also made khabib who could easily be a forgotten champion like Johnson and Whittaker by the casuals into a national russian hero and hero of the Muslim world

Another good one. Rockhold was never the same after the Bisping loss.

It was unfortunate. Bisping showed a massive flaw in Rockhold's entire striking defence that he wasn't able to untrain. He just could not protect his head from short hooks etc.
You just had to get in close and catch him going backward.

GSP vs. Hendricks..

He went 3-6 after losing to GSP.

For reference, he was 15-1 going into that fight

I think it was the second Lawler fight that did that. The GSP fight was the beginning though.
Hendricks was a front runner and just had a tendency to coast when he needed to seal rounds.
He gave away the 5th in both fights after being such a killer early in his career.

Jones has like 12 wins in title fights since, 13 overall I believe. Shogun has gone 8-7-1 since.
UFC > Pride.

Whittaker and Romero after their brutal rematch.

Whittaker has a win streak going now but hes way more gun shy.

Garry Goodridge after joining Pride FC. That guy went downhill real fast after a couple of KO's

Miguel Torres: 24-1 going into his fight against Roger Bowling. He went 7-7 after that loss.
Brian Bowles? Though I think Roger Bowling is a mid level fighter as well. Or was at some time

Rashad vs Sean Salmon (was that his name?)

brutal head kick KO and then that dude got stopped in his next 11 fights iirc

prior to that he was fairly highly regarded

Brian Bowles? Though I think Roger Bowling is a mid level fighter as well. Or was at some time
Yea, it was Brian. A few people have pointed it out, I just never went back to edit it. I had Bowl in my head and ran with Roger on it. Roger was also mid tier. I remember him from his time in Strikeforce.

What was career altering about that?

It launched Ronda and women into the UFC. If she had lost there seriously might not be WMMA in the UFC.

Im trying to go in a different direction. When ever this thread comes around it is usually 99% discussion about a beating a fighter took after which things were never the same.

I see why you say that. I though it was weird because both of them did quite well in MMA and became champions in their respective organizations. I couldn't really see a downfall.

Franklin U. vs Gsp 's fifth main event. Franklin U never the same with wrestler in a ppv he paid for. He had to get results in morning. After 1st takedown where opponent was smothered for 15 seconds - abracadabra..... snorefest for the Franklin U.

Miguel Torres: 24-1 going into his fight against Brian Bowles. He went 7-7 after that loss.

EDIT: Originally posted that Roger Bowling was his opponent.
Torres - in hindsight - just never that good and it was the Joe B fight where I thought I was watching a CSI program. After that infamous blood pool......g.damnnnn
