The Moment When The Ref Saved Usman From Maia

Possibly the worst separation I can think of. Maia had his back in the 1st round in a very dominant position when both were dry, and Maia is known to finish people from that exact position, while Usman has been submitted from that exact position by a guy nowhere near Maia's level.

Colby may have gotten cut open by Maia but by the end of the third round, give Colby another 30 seconds and he 100% finishes Maia.

Usman had 5 rounds with Maia and didn't come close to anything like that.
And he fought Maia after Colby had beat the fuck out of him.

It wasn't that bad lol Maia wasn't progressing the position at all, Usman was never close to any submission risk. That's practically the equivalent of clinching a guy against the cage for multiple minutes.

There was only a minute left on the clock and there was no indication usman was going down. Doubtful Maia grabs a submission in that time. Usman’s a different animal under Trevor though.

Shit break but I didn't see anything that suggested Maia was actually going to get to his back. Maia probably rides out the round in that position with Usman holding onto the whizzer.

There wasnt much going on tbh. He wouldn't have submitted him. Not to mention the fight Usman lost was his second so it's not really relevant to anything.

Lost of times ref breaks up situation like that. Not sure if Maia's name should make it any different.

he wasnt even close to getting a RNC....his arm was trapped , his hooks werent in, and there were only 90 seconds left. and at a maia pace he needed like three minutes to get in position.

Its not a gurantee he would get submitted even if he got his back. Maia had Masvidal on backpack for more than a round and couldn't submit him
