Let's start with Romero.
• Got beaten by Rob, then (arguably) beat him, but it was still a close fight.
(Also, Romero has gone through a physical transformation after their first fight, according to Whittaker).
• Had a close fight against Costa
• Had a close fight against Izzy, in which he landed a few good punches, whereas Izzy visibly hurt Yoel badly with the leg kicks.
Izzy on the other hand...
• demolished Costa
• demolished Whittaker
• had a close fight against Romero
(And IIRC, Izzy's win against Brunson was also far more convincing then Yoel's.)

So yeah, the "people's champ" at 185 has done significantly worse against the same opposition than the actual champ.


Now to Mousasi:
Not much to say there, except that he's unbelievably overrated by some people, lmao
 
It was really good when Jacare was still in his prime-ish and Rockhold and Weidman weren't completely shot and Mousasi was still around.

You need to make a distinction between MMA fans and UFC fans. UFC fans are know-nothing idiots. To the UFC fans, everybody in the UFC is elite and everybody not in is a can. Subsequently, Gegard became a can as soon as the UFC released him. A can cannot possibly affect the quality of the division.

I don't think anyone says it kills the division. The division is there no matter who's in it. What we are saying is that the division is weak at the moment and having two of the top 3-5 fighters in the world not in it is retarded. And it's not like Gegard has ever ducked a fight. Gegard is exactly the type of fighter we should want. But the UFC and its fans have no interest in that. They want the UFC to become the TMZ of sports, if it isn't already.

We have this situation because the UFC has no incentive to give a damn. As stated, it doesn't matter if you suck at fighting, you are the elite by virtue of being in the UFC.

This is another argument for revenue sharing. if the UFC was forced to spend, say, 25% of revenue on fighter salaries, there would be no incentive to get rid of expensive fighters and replace them with cheap ones.

Romero/Adesanya was a terrible fight, but I don’t see how the title can change hands when neither guy did much of anything.

The Vettori fight wasn’t close, and if you actually watched the fight you would know that. It was a clear 29-28 Izzy, he clearly won rounds 1 and 2. Vettori took him down in the third while laying and praying doing no damage. The only judge who scored for it Vettori was Chris Lee who also scored Felder over RDA and Gastelum over Till. In the 8/11 split decisions that he judged in 2020 he was the only person that went against the other 2 judges.

This is crazy, that judge is bad news. Need to keep an eye out for him lol
 
I dont think Rob has a Styrofoam chin. I think Izzy had the perfect style to counter his approach. Granted maybe Izzy got in his head with that entrance and Robert fought too aggressively. Those might be terrible excuses for a defending champion

While it may be hard to promote a rematch I just dont see anyone else beating Whittaker
