Metal/Rock/Industrial The metal thread \m/

Cutting a discussion from another thread into this one...

There was no Thrash scene in LA. All of those bands moved up to the Bay Area because the LA scene was full of eyeliner wearing sissies, where Exodus was already crushing it. The scene was started here.

Wrong. Both Megadeth and Slayer remained in Los Angeles. They're quintessentially Angeleno bands. Even members of Slayer wore eyeliners in their early days. Dave Mustaine told Kerry King to cut that shit out and stop being a poseur.

You guys were dressing up like women and doing hair metal. All of these bands credit the Bay Area. Go watch Murder in the Front Row and learn some history.

We had both. Like I said, I couldn't give a damn if someone calls me a poseur because I listen to hair metal. I grew out of that gatekeeping phase many years ago. I listen to Ratt, Dokken, Warrant, Tesla (I wouldn't really consider Tesla as hair metal though), etc. and I thoroughly enjoy their music. Bands like Pantera and Alice in Chains all had their start in hair metal.

This is not a knock on the Bay Area thrash scene. I'm a huge fanatic of the likes of Testament, Exodus, and Death Angel. The first thrash metal band I witnessed live was Testament (minus Skolnick). I'm just stating the facts here.

Also, let's not forget about the contributions New York City had given to the thrash metal scene with bands like Anthrax, S.O.D., and Overkill.

Megadeth started well after the Bay Area scene was already booming. Metallica was playing in the Bay Area WITH Dave Mustaine. Slayer stopped wearing eyeliner because they got clowned at the first show they played in the Bay Area. You have your history wrong.

You really aren't though because all of those bands from LA weren't getting gigs and the fans weren't into what they were doing at the start down in LA. It wasn't until after they went up to the Bay Area and got big that the scene grew in LA.

I'm not saying Thrash was exclusive to the Bay Area, I'm saying that is where the scene began - because that's what these bands actually say. Their were contributions from all over, including Germany with Kreator, Sodom and others.

i went to Maryland DeathFest this year and it was incredible. i have lots of great pics i can post later - dont have the time now unfortunately. for now, this page has this past year's lineup. https://deathfests.com/history/

on topic - i dont like anything else these guys did but i have been listening to this album again a lot recently and its still cool. Nifelheim's apparently still going.

I’m headed to Maryland deathfest next year

That's about as far as I go with Death Metal. They got to be able to sing and this is the only band that mixes the screaming with singing and speed metal

Those are my 3 favorite songs from this band

I love how fast they play their music

I forgot about Fear Factory. They are my favorite death metal band. And they mix good vocals with the screaming

I listened to them almost exclusively for like a year

I love their machine theme

There one song by Fear Factory with the Bladerunner quote.. I can't remember the name of the song

Yup sure is. I have been to psycho las vegas a few times previously
i had never heard of that fest so i had to look it up. those are some random-ass lineups they had. reminds me of Chaos in Texas in the 2010s. lots of different genres.

ive been to Maryland Deathfest every year since 2009. its worth it each time, even though Baltimore sucks. when it gets close to fest time, reach out to me if you want some advice or pointers on where to stay, where not to go in Baltimore, etc.

This is more like Groove Metal, I wouldn't call this Death Metal at all. The riffs are kind of Death Metal influenced but that's it.

I hated Death Metal forever, mainly because of the vocals. I think you need to see some of the bands live to really get into it. Once it clicks it's fucking awesome. So fucking heavy.

Like all genres though you need to find the right band to get you into it as not everyone sounds the same within a genre.

Sound a lot like this AsI lay Dying song

Another sick song from that album

And Yes Fear Factory rules!! They would be classified as industrial groove metal been a fan for 25 years

They do sound similar to me but I think Parasite Inc wins.

They're like a Symphony of Metal

They got a lot of speed.

The guys in your band can sing too. I like the mixture of that demon voice with the good singing that kicks in every now and then

I like your band, and I'm putting them on my playlist

I just found some Scottish heavy metal. This makes me think of Asgard or something

Like Odin riding that giant wolf and the people are singing. They made him get off his throne to kick some ass. Odin riding into your town

I've been hooked on 200 Stab Wounds since seeing them last Saturday. I'm telling you guys if they are touring in your area go fucking see them. Best set I've seen in a while and I go to at least 3 or more shows every month.

Nah Nifelheim are defunct, what you might be refering to is their singer's new solo project Hellbutcher, which sounds basically the same... Debut album was released this year and it's pretty fucking awesome btw. Also guy looks like Beetlejuice, lol.
