There are Finnish metal bands....then there is Wintersun

There used to be a Impaled Nazarene album that I used to like way back in the day being half Finnish I should revisit it. Obviously I would say Children of Bodom and Nightwish are the most popular bands to come out of Finland. The keys in COB can bug me at times though. Love this one. RIP Alexi.

Laiho was a talented guitarist, but i get cavities from this sugary sweet keyboard laden music.

Yeah COB would have been so much better without the keys. It can really take me out of what could be great music. Half of the time its just playing the same melody as the guitar anyways so whats the point of that? Alexi super talented he wrote all of that bands music.

His new band Bodom after Midnight was promising had some killer Alexi tunes going on basically COB 2.0, unfortunately he passed shortly after the band launched.

I did buy this album upon release. It was heavily advertised on a black/death metal magazine I used to buy back in the days called Black Light. They included some songs on a promo CD (including this one) and got me pretty hyped. Not a big fan of their later industrial stuff.

BTW, the guy who did the vocals in this one (I think Attila Csihar joined the band in 2000), The Great Yorga, passed away earlier this year (June).

Death Angel fucking kicked ass last night. Not my favorite set from them based on song selection, they did a ton of shit off Art of Dying, which I do love that album but there were a lot of other tracks of theirs I would had preferred. I ended up right in front of the pit so after about 5 songs of lifting people off the ground and over my head I was fucking toast and had to retreat to the back and pound waters, LOL.

Necrot was fucking AWESOME. Drill the Skull and Sinister Will had people going nuts. Glad I caught the night with them playing.

I really like the first Aborym LP

The Atilla tracks are super experimental, whereas the Yorga tracks are more straight BM. (although Italian as fuck (Roman Divina Urbs) in a way that isnt done as much as it should be)

That album is all over the place but I love it all. I wish they would have done more of the straight BM then all the industrial shit thogh
