that's why I said "I think" because I had a feeling meme came before those macrotext'ed images

I can but I'm not going to unless you can't figure out how to use one of the meme sites that let you upload the image so you can easily add text to it and save

my only issue with the definition is that pretty much all my shoops would be considered memes and I never thought of myself as a scrub that can only make memes. I make them, but it's not all I can do.

I'm put in a group with a bunch of talentless hacks sure plenty of memes are hilarious and the "artist" should be commended, but as a % of total memes, I'd say 99.9% are terrible and only funny to a very tiny group in a specific community.

Is there an easy gif or meme maker?

well for making gifs from videos I use a free program called instagiffer which is easy to use, but you can feed gifs into it too if you want to remove some frames. To add the text I'm not sure what free programs to recommend, but GIMP should be able to do it.
