Fixed :D

Was Genova in particular to sell balestrieri (+parmense shield guys), at some point they was the most expensive elite unit you can buy

Longbow proven to be superior though, but as somebody said required too much physical specialization... Was'nt even simple "strenght" longbow archers had literally asymmetrical body due years of longbow training, with the pulling side being much more thick

Essentially you could be overall bigger/stringer than an longbow archer but still he will outpower you at that specific movement

Although probably the biggest difference isn't range but rate of fire being many times faster with a longbow meaning you can maintain more of a "Zulu" like defence against a charging enemy provided you have favourable ground.

I would one up Giotto and introduce the Renaissance and the blues.

Think you could hack it in medieval times? Kind of hard to believe just how long it was, modern times has only been less than 200 years while medieval times was over 1000.

You say this is as if the "Medieval period" is homogeneous, as if things at one end of your thousand years would have been the same as the other end. In reality things differed significantly across time , not to mention from place to place.

Wouldn't mind being a peasant in a safe area away from raiding foreign armies, plague centers, civil wars etc. running around in an enchanting forest.

Not sure if I would like castle life too much even though it wasn't as bad or as dark as some of us might have believed. I think I would be a good "lord" to my servants and private army.

Time stamped:

This guy's youtube is great and very informative. His crimes against medieval realism videos are awesome.

Medieval fight book is the docco type show on the book.

I recall seeing that , guy called Mike loades presented it ? I've read one of his books about archery, decent read.

The stuff they showed on the show like the machinery and assault weaponry isn't in the book I've seen by Talhoffer....I need to rectify that.

I implied no such thing.

Feel free to talk about the differences. Which one do you think was the most significant?

Maybe it's been a while since I watched it.

I’ll jump in here. No single one, but pre Charlemagne vs post, the Vikings showing up, the crusades, and the Black Death. The were the biggest I have seen in Western Europe.

In the east the Muslims, then the Vikings showing up, the crusades had a big impact there as well, Genghis Khan, the Black Death.

Anyone else want to chime in and add some cool facts and big things that changed different parts of the medieval ages.

Armor is kinda a cool thing to notice during each age. Going from chain mail, to the early forms of plate and the great helms of the crusades, to the 13 hundreds having better looking armor with the bascinet helm the end of the 14 hundreds with the shiny fancy armor and the armet helmet most people think of with knights.
