Why is this news even being reported like it means anything? I mean don’t get me wrong, good for her, but the worst kept secret in Hollywood is that the Marvel movies are paint-by-numbers affairs that are essentially remotely directed by Kevin Feige. And all the action set pieces are pre-planned years in advance without the directors’ input and shot by the second unit crew.

This is why none of the Marvel movies have any real character. They just roll off the assembly line. Consistency > Risk. Consistency > Excellence.

It’s a system that aims to produce no “Joker,” no “ Catwoman,” and no risk.

I think diversity just naturally happens when your population is DIVERSE.

But when you start seeing and prioritizing people based off of their identity first, before quality of character then you have us back in Nazi Germany...one day you'll figure this out.
do you have any proof that DaCosta was hired based on her sex & race, rather than her abilities as a filmmaker? or do you just pop around into every movie thread w/ a non-white and/or non-male director to parrot the same unfunny joke.

you must be very lonely.

Nazi Germany had a white supremacist regime with white supremacy as a core value. The diversity stuff is not even new. Making it the centrepiece of any discussion only keeps fuel on that fire. It’s a tried and true tactic to divide people. If you don’t like Cap Marvel cause she’s a woman or for whatever reason that’s your business, but it doesn’t have to be your politics. Just like it doesn’t have to be my politics that I, as a liberal, am mad at you for holding an opinion I don’t.

But, there’s a concerted effort out there to get people to argue, in a way that didn’t happen when, say, Sarah Conner and Ripley were headlining action movies. Seeds were planted 40 years ago, blooming now.

Wasn't she purposely acting like that because the soldiers she trained with are taught not to show emotion? Pretty sure she was supposed to be robotic and lack emotion.

It didn't work either way. They need to revamp her personality, give her more charisma.

They could do that but I just don't think it will be any better. Honestly she just comes across like a boring super hero with a boring story. It's ok to watch once and make it a movie night when you don't have much else going on but that's about it. Unless they give her a really good story i don't think a personality change will help much.

Her personality was the worst part of the first movie. So yes, it would've changed things.

Eh I guess to some people certainly not to me. Just the story being bland was the worst part of the movie. I thought her personality fit well for the movie. Her being charismatic while being trained to be an emotionless soldier would have just made a bland story make no sense.

Well the most important thing is that the Director is both BLACK and FEMALE. And if she happens to be gay or non binary even we have ourselves a fucking HOME RUN!

Who cares how the movie does at this point, we've already won!

Why are you so triggered that the director is a black woman? Is there something wrong with that? Are black women not allowed to direct Marvel movies or something?

I thought the Skrull storyline was interesting.

I did like the twist that they had but by that time it was to little to late and the rest of the movie wasn't worth it. To be fair I think almost every single origin story is some of the worst in the marvel movies. Captain America 1 and Thor 1 were some of the worst Marvel movies I've ever seen. Iron man pulled it off but I think it's harder to make an origin story than the ones after it when the hero is more established. The sequels almost always improved upon the first by a large margin IMO.

I just saw it as an average movie, held down by a rather boring main character. A stronger character would've pushed it to above average.

For instance there was nothing really special about Iron Man 1's story, RDJ carried that movie and made it great. You are trying to downplay how important the main star performance is. There are tons of movies where an average story is carried by the actors.

I think you are being woefully ignorant as to the identity politics currently being played today

I'm not down playing it. It's just that people wanted her to act in a way that isn't possible because of the story. The story specifically called for an emotionless soldier that's how the Kree were trained. I understand people may not like that but it's her origin story and that's how it played out. Maybe in the newer movies they'll open up her personality more now that she isn't being trained by the Kree.

I dont even remember the first one really. Might go rewatch it. All I remember was the horribly timed No Doubt song during an action scene.

Again, it didn't work. It doesn't matter if that's what they wanted her to play, it doesn't work for the movie.

Meh, I'll wait until the trailers before I want to see it or not. The first one had mediocre trailers and it ended being a mediocre movie.

How was it great?
Where was the threat? Where was the possibility of her losing?
What was the biggest thing that she had to overcome? getting her memories back?
Don't dismiss legit criticisms as being triggered by female superheros.
She was just a nuke that could simply over power any obstacle. This all started with Kevin Feige coming out trying to make the most powerful superhero. Which is another gripe.
Everyone knows a superhero movie is only as good as the villain. This was super weak.

Lol.

Nobody is triggered by female super heroes. Wonder Woman did fine, and people have been looking forward to the sequel. Nobody gives a shit about Captain Marvel. Bland “b” character in the comics, that Marvel keeps trying to shove down everyone’s throats in the name of feminism, and the comics have continued to failed, no matter how many times they reboot the series.
Meanwhile, they cast the snobbiest actress they could find, a true feminazi who couldn’t even be bothered to put in a work out before portraying a super hero, and told the core comics book audience that her movie “wasn’t for white men.”

triggered by bait.

i make a post about men that get triggered by female super heroes and you respond defensively. why? did you think i was talking about you? why did you think that? i don't even know who you are, have never seen a post by you. why do YOU personally respond defensively to a post that is not about you by a poster who doesn't even know who you are?

i think thou dost protest too much.

all of the Marvel movies have character. every single one. they are among the best movies i have ever seen and a great gift to those of us who watched those cartoons as children.

first movie was great. its also neat how many so called men are triggered by female superheros.

cant wait for the next movie.

Huh, most comic dorks (such as myself) loved Wonder Woman and never bitched about Scarlet Witch, Black Widow, or Wasp or Gwen Stacy in Into the Spiderverse. Care to guess why Captain Marvel gets hate? Zero emoting by the lead actress, paint by numbers plot, and a movie that made it hard for me to give a shit about anything happening in it. Look at what is DC's #1 or #2 best movie in the series depending on how you view Shazam and then look at the MCU's Captain Marvel which probably lands somewhere in the bottom three among general audiences.

General audiences loved Wonder Woman. They didn't like Captain Marvel.

Cappy Marvel is Cosmic tier, a Deus Ex Machina that handles everything short of Thanos when he wields the Infinity Gautlet which makes me wonder throughout the movie "What's the point?".
