Genuinely curious here. You guys think he's worthy as a lead big bad? I see him as a supporting cast villain - he's like Grievous without the dueling skills. Basically he's Hux, a mean-spirited guy who sometimes gets the upper hand, but ultimately a shambling doofus of a villain who's only believable as a rival for second-string heroes.

He never wins an engagement. In the S1 finale, he's presented as the face of the Empire, big bad and Werner Herzog's boss (big WTF there). He's then defeated by Mando and his ragtag team and outgunned in aerial combat by a dude with a jetpack.

In S2, his arms shipment is hijacked by Mando & Co and despite ordering his man to kamikaze the ship in a sacrifice play, he can't even accomplish that.

He does successfully kidnap baby Yoda, but even then he never puts a dent in the good guys roster. They never show any actual results of studying Grogu's blood, and grogu himelf is shown none the worse for the wear - no PTSD, no darkside anger/fear, not even any physical damage. He never wins an engagement or harms/kills a single good guy, loses his duel with Mando, attempts to shoot Koska Reeves and then grogu without any success and then gets KTFO'ed by fucking Gina Carano.

I loved the finale and the series but Gideon sucks ass. He's a way less cool bad guy version of Indiana Jones from Raiders. He could have been completely absent from S2 and everything would have happened exactly the same.

He's a Mid-Level boss no question, made even more obvious with the existence of Thrawn. Dude doesn't even rock a Star Destroyer.

He's ok, because on a Galactic scale the Mando series is still relatively small. As someone posted earlier, Moff G was good early on, but now some S-Class characters have entered the fray and it's time to either remove him as a regular antagonist or move up.

Yet I've seen deepfake gifs that did a better job than what they did in The Mandolorian.

Right now I don't like use of that technology at all in cinema or television. It isn't there yet, just like it wasn't there in the Matrix. I almost liked young Leia in Rogue One because the story let me forgive it, just like the story let me forgive it in Mandalorian.

Maybe this will be fixed in the future. It definitely can be.

At the end of the day I felt so good seeing Luke get this treatment I don't want to complain about anything. Of course I know it should have looked better but we got Luke fucking Skywalker kicking ass for a few minutes, so all is well in my universe.

He's ok, not Thrawn/Vader/Palp level but better than Snoke/Ren/Hux.
I'd rate him higher than Hux.

For sure.

I have high expectations for Thrawn.
Lars Mikkelson (Mads brother) 56 years old, is the voice actor for Thrawn on Rebels which everyone liked. There have been some mock ups of him doing the live action version. I can see it with the right effects.

@Dragonlordxxxxx do you have a fantasy cast for Thrawn??

His style of acting was perfect for Breaking Bad but really lacking for Mandalorian, which I guess suggests he's limited as an actor.

He essentially played the same character in "The Boys" as well. Still okay with it.

You know how much I liked this?

Every time I watch this clip you gave us there are tears of joy. Actual tears. Being a part of that communal love for a character that's been in me for almost fifty years is a very powerful thing. It's a part of who I am.

Edit: I was so excited by this episode I thought this video really happened. I had no problems imagining Star Wars fans reacting exactly this way.

Snoke was ruined by TLJ, same as Luke, but Luke had the OT and PT to establish him.

Imperial officer #4 that Bill Burr Blasted was better than Hux.

Ren was overrated as a villain and fell victim early to Mary Sue, losing any balls he may have had.

That's why I rank Moff Gideon higher than them.

I'm not sure what would make me happy in a Mandalorian villain. I'm a pretty hardcore science fiction television fan, and man have we had some great villains over the years, so I'm incredibly spoiled.

Do none of the ships in Star Wars have cameras inside of them so they can see where their enemies are on the ships?

I still liked it too.

But believe it or not, I think it would have been far more powerful if they never actually showed his face, but just kept the camera on the other characters reactions, rather than the shitty Luke Deepfake.

I mean, the audience didn't actually need to see his face to know its him.

Not sure I agree.

They went insane when the face was revealed even though everyone knew who it was.

I felt exactly the same way, and didn't care at all that the CGI wasn't great.
