I'll tell you the secret intel.

You can craft armadillo armor mods for free basically and without perks. They cost only basic and uncommon components to craft.

Even with just the 3 or 4 pts in tech ability you start with you'll craft mods that give +80 armor each, exponentially more if you crit while crafting and make a rare/epic/legendary mod.

Get clothing items with 2 or more slots. Stack freely crafted armor mods. Triple or quadruple your base armor.

Ok, but why? Quickhacks exist.

I'm at the point of the game where I'm barely firing my gun, much less worrying about armor. A single breach protocol makes short circuit basically free, and that's clocking in the high 1600s base damage. If they survive it, they won't survive the following Synapse Overload. I whomped a dude for 2k and some change last night.

And THEN, if they survive all that, I got a projectile launcher to clear the room.

I'm at the point of the game where I'm barely firing my gun, much less worrying about armor. A single breach protocol makes short circuit basically free, and that's clocking in the high 1600s base damage. If they survive it, they won't survive the following Synapse Overload. This reminds me of my Skyrim build. Like 95 archery, 85 sneak, 100 lockpicking.... 100 heavy weapons so I would snipe shot fucking everyone and sneak around stealing shit and when I got discovered with the mods I had loaded up I'd be decapitating motherfuckers with my Daedric two handed sword.

Spec enchanting and heavy armor. By the time you get the conditioning perk, you should be able to enchant at max and take Extra Effect. Enchant mana reductions so 2 schools are free and then go get quiet casting from illusion. You go from being a glass cannon to just being a cannon. Even with no crit you'll waste anything in the game.

I can never run mage shit in Skyrim for some reason. I just lose interest which I know is dumb as there's a lot of fun ways to play as a mage in that game.

I know one of the big criticisms is that mana is a hard limiter. Unless you're god at planning, you can't make a mana specific build that isn't either health or mana fucked until like level 40. You're either gonna go glass cannon or battlemage because you have no mana. Sneak crit bonus completely tilts in favor of range builds vs magic.

Remove mana from the equation though, and the mage becomes the best class in the game in damage output and utility. Being able to use Expert level Thunderbolt as a long range greeting is understated in how effective it is.
