Movies THE LIGHTHOUSE (starring Willem Dafoe & Batman)

I thought that The Witch sucked but this looks like it could be good. Sort of looks and feels like Persona (with dudes) mixed with Vampyr. I'm not holding my breath, but I'm intrigued.

I didnt like the witch either but this one got some praise so I added it to my amazon watchlist.

due to bump, now would be a good time to announce that The Lighthouse is now available to stream on Amazon Prime. @Dragonlordxxxxx or @Bullitt68 or other mods i can’t think of, could you edit this info into the parenthesis of the thread title?

i personally wouldn’t recommend streaming as the ideal way to see this movie since the compression always fucks w/ shadows/blacks the most, but i’m still glad that this movie is available to a wider audience. even though that will probably mean a deluge of low audience reviews/ratings.

Yeah on IMDB its either a 10 or a 1 star review.

Definition of a love or hate film. I think it goes over alot of viewers heads... and I fucking hate it when people say that about movies. Acting like you're smart because you liked a movie someone else didn't.

Personally, I thought it was just a little too artsy for me. But I enjoyed it still. I'd give it a 7.

Lot of non-Sherdog/genius level intellects won't understand this movie and will shit on it. But fuck em! It's a great movie!

Mermaids, Robert Pattinson jerking off, tentacles, etc. That's the definition of awesome!

I saw it...It's basically 2 great actors trying to out-crazy each other....I loved it

The original script was a lot clearer but he wanted the viewer to match the mental state of Efrain so he purposefully made it more confusing. That's definitely going to be alienating for a lot of people but I think makes for a much better film.

You could definitely interpret that as too artsy for its own good and that's ok. Good art is supposed to be polarizing. That decision means this movie will be talked about for a long time, where as a generic story that's easy to follow is forgotten by men, gods, and even the sea itself.

No doubt. I actually think this movie will be forgotten pretty quickly though. Too many people hate it. Im not gonna watch it again or recommend it. I enjoyed it, but it lacks alot of qualities that make a movie universally loved.

One of the cool things about it is Dafoe is a stage actor so he rehearses meticulously but Pattinson prefers to use first takes and believes spontaneity is important for an organic scene. So there was a lot of tension in their interactions on screen because of the clashing methodologies but it adds so much thematically.

Pattinson also slept in a hotel with the crew while Dafoe went method and slept alone in a shack. On set Robert would isolate himself and Willem would hang out with the crew. Apparently they didn't even talk to eachother during filming due to how exhausted they were. But they talked afterwards and got along really well.

I only saw it once so far (own the Blu Ray) and a lot of it went over my head but I'm enough of a celluloid geek that the aesthetics alone carried it for me but I'm definitely looking forward to second viewing possibly with subtitles on.

I never imagined the Twilight guy would be such a dedicated actor that would garner so much respect from me. Ironically he has the spirit that keeps film meaningful.

No way, it will be a top movie for the geeks who loved it. It stands out like a great light in a foggy sea of super hero movies.

I always have subtitles on

Lol great analogy. I also see it that way. Definitely the flip side to all this cape shit.

I saw one scene and YouTube and bought it on Blu-ray immediately. I could tell it was crafted with love and needed to be seen in the purest format you could get. Definitely lived up to my expectations. Greek mythology was something I really got in to as a kid and inspired me for a lot of years, so seeing a modern yet archaic approach to those stories was really neat. It really gives it a timeless feel.

Same but usually not the first viewing as I really want to take in the cinematography and mise-en-scene on that initial view. Once I've got a good idea of the movie on that level I'll usually throw in subtitles to make sure I'm getting all aspects of the dialogue correctly understood.

All it took was The Witch for me to be in the "I'll see anything this guy makes" camp. Him and Aster both, I'll see anything they put out. Until they pull a Shyamalan.
